    Hi Members,

Can anyone tell me about Satelite websites, what are they? and what kind of impact one gets on its use. Does it increases traffic, visibility or conversion?

    Regards

They are multiple website domains & duplicate content.

One of the most played strategies is to build an extensive network of simple websites that are designed to all inflate the link popularity/PageRank/Rankings of a main “flagship” site. They are “satellite networks”, and 99% of the time they suck. And they don’t work either. Here’s why:

You’re not fooling anyone. We all know which sites are part of your network, which means that Google does too. Linking “Footprints” are the staple of an amateurish satellite network. If you have 15, 25 or 50 sites linking to your main site and each one links to the other and your main site, then it’s all pretty obvious and not worth a real boost in the SERPs. You haven’t earned anything except alot of wasted time and the ill favor of your loved one at home for spending said time on crappy websites. Google is not going to give your flagship site any love for that.

No Original Content = Nothing of Value = Uselessness. Most of the satellite networks that I have seen lack the same thing: original content. This makes sense, because original, informative, relevant content takes time, energy, and a few bucks (if you want to pay for copywriters). It is obviously easier & faster to grab something someone already wrote, which is posted for everyone to see on some .gov or .org authority website. The problem there is that it already exists in a million other places, why would anyone post it again where no one is going to see it? Sheesh. Such satellite websites are only saturating your particular vertical with garbage & keeping you from doing meaningful SEO.

Satellite Websites don’t have real “link equity” (inbound link juice).

Hosted on the Same Server. With the Same Hosting Company & Same WhoIs Info? A team of monkeys could figure out who owns the satellite network with a little digging. I love finding out what competitors are doing if for no other reason than to establish what threshholds I need to meet & exceed. However, this Whois Bookmarklet is one of my most trusted SEO tools (more on these later). If you’re going to try and create a satellite network of websites to artificially inflate your own PR, here’s a tip: don’t put them all in the same place.

With a very short timeframe (& a decent budget), I can usually outrank a satellite network’s flagship site. Achieve top rankings by making your main domain the best, most informative, most widely recognized & most creative website in your relevant vertical. It may take some time, but you will see improvements along the way that will keep you invested and keep you enthralled. I’ve seen it countless times, and it keeps me coming back for more. Now go get some!

Few rules of decent satellites are:
*up to 10 sites per IP
*unique content 70%+ of unique text
    *original look of real website
*random linking or no linking between satellites at all
Don't build too many (100+) at the same time. Generally it should look like a normal site. In reality any site that "supports" yours is a satellite, so it can be a blog, a catalog, a directory, few-page website, etc.

Which is more beneficial working on satellite sites or putting the same effort to the main site?

it is always wise to put effort on the main site. Its obvious that you are not going to be benefited with satellite sites.
