My blog, Guitar Fact, has been up for about a month- not counting development time. Since then, I've obtained 692 uniques (1,128 pageviews). I thought I would share a few hints and areas of advice for new blogs who want to jump right on in on traffic benefits! First, I would have to say that when you get discouraged, get motivated. I can't even remember all the times when my blog was getting very few visits, and I wanted to quit. I just kept pushing myself, taking breaks every now and then. (Look at it as a long term success in blogging, NOT short term) Second, I would suggest that all content be created by either yourself, or a professional content writer. I have written all the content to include very rich keywords- and NONE of which I have optimized for search engines. I have written for the reader, not a search engine bot. In the end, readers are the ones recommending your blog to others- and search engine listings can be very temporary. Visitors first! Third, link to other content- and not just from other websites. I have recently included a "Learn More" module that I put in a few links to related blog entries. Not only have I seen a big boost in targeted keywords as a result, but my readers stay on my website a LOT longer- over 5 minutes average! As a side result, I noticed that since I updated my previous entries with this module, Google crawled me and gave me literally instant traffic to those entries. It was really odd, but it works because Google likes updated content! Lastly, find blogs that are like yours, and comment on their blogs. This lets everyone know your alive and kicking, and also provides a few free backlinks. It goes beyond just benefit, you'll make friends. I even had a friend blog point out a mistake in one of my articles- so they are helpful! Blog directories and blog networking sites are well worth a visit too! The majority of my traffic comes right here from digitalpoint! Don't forget to keep your blog feed url active, and use a good service such as FeedBurner to make it more well known! My next biggest source of traffic is Google- believe it or not. I have about 70 different search terms that lead to my blog currently, from only 20 articles. All with out optimizing my pages for targeted keywords- proof that writing for readers is the best decision. And lastly, referring websites give me constant traffic. Write good material, and people link to it. It's as simple as that! Good luck with your blogs, thought I'd help you guys out with getting started, I know I would have loved to had this information while starting my blog. Best of luck! (keep motivated!)
I'm glad you got 700 uniques for your first month, but realize that you're only getting about 25 visitors per day. That's great and all, but a click of StumbleUpon will give me at least 50 uniques. Nevertheless, if this traffic was all from Google, now you've got something. Rep given.
