I just started working on a new theme for my search engine.
It's not applied to the entire site yet, but this is what it would look like once it's done: http://www.uppersites.com/index2.html
Please check it out and let me know what you think.

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,
    Kris

Thanks again for all the URL's!

You all make my spider very happy - especially now that after a database crash I had to rebuild the database which is a good thing in a sense because the new database is cleaner, faster and more organized. Though the indexes our larger than before, the queries return with faster and more relevant results now.

I'm about to feed the spider again today, but before I do let me ask you all again to check out the new template for the site: http://www.uppersites.com/index2.html
Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks again for everything!

    Thanks for the comment BlindCat!

It's because as I said above, I lost the database day before yesterday, so I am in the process of rebuilding it. Plus UpperSites is not done yet. I'm working on new templates for it which could mean a lot of changes in the overall structure of the site as well.

Did you submit your site though?

    Cheers,
    Kris

The search index on the site is growing rapidly thanks to all of you here.
I really appreciate your help with feeding my web crawler.

On another DP thread I asked people how they like the search engine the way it is. I listened to their suggestions and changed the site around quite a bit. Those of you who have been visiting or maybe even using this search engine in the past few weeks will see some big changes on UpperSites Search. Please check it out and let me know what you think!
Oh, and keep those URLs coming!
    Thanks

i dont't think it's nessasry to submit links - if you have a few backlinks
    http://www.google.com got you anyway

    Dear lumpsy,

It is exactly what UpperSites gives you: free back links and a few extra visitors every once in a while. UpperSites does not exist to replace http://www.google.com anyway. It is there to fill the gaps. Think about all the newbies that design their new pages and waiting and hoping to get some traffic to their site, but not getting any because of the higher and higher standards of the top search engines. UpperSites is trying to provide a free web search service with good search engine results while allowing webmasters submitting their pages and getting them ranked with lower standards.

It won't hurt anyone to submit their URLs. It's worth a shot, doesn't it?

    Cheers,
    Kris

Thanks for the links and the question, pixens!
I'm collecting URLs for the web index my search engine is using.
Meta search engines use data from other search engines, so they don't need to maintain their own database. This makes them slow and all the service they provide is that they search on other search engines to give you a combination of their results. UpperSites in the other hand gives users unique search results because it searches through sites webmasters like you have submitted to it. With this, it is giving a chance to smaller sites to get some exposure if they could not succeed on Google, Yahoo, MSN etc...

I thought that I should let you know that I just implemented a few new features on UpperSites!

Now you can filter your searches by choosing one of these categories:
web, blogs, news, forums, wikis and adult (show everything with the adult filter off).

Please let me know what you think!

    Thanks,
    Kris
