Who actually gets traffic from directories?

How effective is adding your site to directories in terms of generating traffic?
Is it worth paying to get on any, and if so, which?
I've read many different viewpoints, but remain pretty skeptical. How does adding your site to directories actually help you get traffic (it doesn't seem like anyone uses those)?

Directories are for backlinks not traffic.

    Last month,

    4 from forplex.com 6 from linkrain.com

and out of the other 100 or so i'm in 0 (including some of the best out there)

    And few here and there.

That doesn't matter though as there traffic is useless to me,

Ok if you have your own directory your promoting but most directories dont get any/much targetted traffic to other niches (exept webmaster etc...)

I mean it's hard to find a directory who's internal pages get any ranking for keywords related to other niches :)

So i never ever expect traffic from a directory.

Not really what there made for IMHO

Buy Featured links if you want to get some traffic..

Also, you can place top bids on bidding directories like bigweblinks.com (which itself gets huge traffic)

Only a small percentage of the benefit of a directory listing is through direct traffic (in most cases). What will get you traffic is when your directory link is picked up by search engines.

Traffic usually comes from better SE rankings. You can also get decent traffic if your site is a web directory as well.
However, if your site deals with some small niche, a listing in the established and strong directory can easily appear on top of search results.
For example, Dream web directory has sent over 200 visitors to one of its listing, just in July. Most of this traffic comes from the free blog post I give with listings and that ranks very high.

    Directorys are not for traffic

    Directorys get's backlinks

    Backlinks get's Rankings

    Rankings = traffic

www.uksmallbusinessdirectory.co.uk sends my SEO site about 30 visitors a week though that I get business from it, many others send me 1-15 a week, I would say I get nearly 100 visitors a week from directories, when I was on the 1st page of Big Web Links I got bare visitors.

bigweblinks.com and gii.in are the only two directories that send me traffic regularly.

directorycritic.com sends a lot of traffic to my article sites.

To share my view, i have submitted my directory nobledirectory.com to several directories such as -

    avivadirectory.com
    directorydump.com
    gii.in
    bqtm.com
    linkbook.org
    biz-dir.co.uk
    web-directories.ws

and several other paid directories, and altogether i get some traffic from them. But i didnt submit to expect traffic but to get good rankings which would help in increasing my serps.. and would help in traffic later :)

They use a bot to check for broken links regularly. I wonder if your referrals are all from the root and not the page where you're listed?

That makes sense because the reffering URL is always kingbloom.com, the home page.

Indirect traffic is what we expect from directories......b'coz 1st increase serps/////backlinks..then think of featured listing in some best.....dirs......for traffic.....
