Your site could get penalized for a duplicate content if you make it automatic.
    Otherwise I don't see a problem.
Try to spin the content and you will be OK.

Now why would you do that?

If you already have unique content and can create more, then why is there a need to use an auto blog?

Lets say you pulled content in through rss feeds from news feeds and then posted your own comments about the articles coming in. I think you woulod be safe by then wouldnt u?

auto blogs are a bad idea....and why would you want to duplicate your own content?

But vigor dont people have news feeds going out all the time on their sites. I dont see them being hit with a zero pagerank or going into the supplementals?

As long as you're commenting on the news as you're posting it, and add some entirely unique content too, I don't think you would run into too much trouble. If you go entirely auto, I think you could get penalised pretty heavily.

If you're going to use autoblogging tools you should noindex your pages to avoid any supplemental indexing and duplicated content issues. This will provide your readers with reading material but not the bots.

What I would do is robots.txt certain directories which contain pulled content via RSS and leave the bots read the unique content.

Don't go with Duplicate Content. I think you will loose your visitors also if they find you are automating your blog by adding duplicate posts. Write good quality posts which are useful to your visitors rather than automatically updating the blog.

2bnumber1, is there any wordpress plugin that can do this?

Rosie my blog will pull in news feeds through rss, but my posts will all be unique and very much quality posts, so it will be rich with no duplicate posts . It will just have automated news articles coming in from feeds and i will be posting my own expertise opinions about every article coming in. ALL UNIQUE POSTS BY ME

Thanks for this post......... finally I understand how auotblog hurts.....
all other admire that it will give you fresh content......... but actually it is "Fresh duplicated " content..........

Will that hurt the original writer as well?

It has happened in the past yes, it happened to me on google images but never to me personally in regular search or text / article content.

But I have lost the number 1 spot on google image search for several key phrases, to someone who was hot linking to my own image. I eventually got it back though like 2 months later.
