What do you think about this and how will it effect themes now?

I like it but only for selfish reasons.

I personally don't use sponsored themes and have to weed them out from the ones that are not sponsored. Now it will be a lot easier for me to choose a theme - I won't have to wade through the undesirable ones. yay

And they are going to do this manually or automatically?

If option a, what a waste of time
If option b, how will they distinguish in between sponsored and designer links

Google caused this and people shouldn't follow them as they were sheep.

Please explain how Google caused this. I haven't heard this and appreciate the information you can give me. :)

That's because Google doesn't allow anymore people to buy/sell links.

Yet the only reason they are where they are now is because they sell links.

    Ironic really...

I've been out of the loop. Can you provide a link to this?

It was my understanding that links can be bought and sold, just like any other ad, as long as it was clearly labeled as such, and (I think), have a nofollow on it. At least this is my understanding.
