Yes exactly its bizarre but he has at last landed in LA with all his baggage and bullshit, and sadly CNN put him as the leader at the top of the hourly news, now we joe public are anxiously waiting to see if he can compete with the other losers on the block Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan et al Well I guess they are trying to pick up all the trash, and trying to keep it all in one area At least the Posh had her initials engraved on her Bentley wheel hubs for instant identification when they get stopped for DUI, good to see they are helping the police make sure the rap is prosecuted when caught driving
I missed the whole Beckham deal with LA Galaxy. It seems a little odd that he's moving from a world class club to a club in a country where football isn't all that popular (or so I've heard). I'm assuming he's being paid a whole lot more than he was with Real Madrid?
The type football that is only known as football is immensely popular. The type of football that is known as soccer, futbol, voetbol, footie, and association football is popular is the most popular sport for girls and is fairly popular for young boys but the bigger, faster, stronger boys gravitate to football (known only as football), basketball, baseball, and hockey. Beckham may help the MLS along a bit but not enough to surpass the National Hockey League as the fourth major team sport in North America. Mr. Beckham is supposed to earn about $250 million over 5 years, I believe about 90% of that is from endorsements.
He brought lots of attention for Galaxy and this pulls in tons of money. can he show real results with Galaxy? Or will he fail like in Real Madrid
I beg to differ. He never 'failed' at Madrid. People expect Beckham to dribble past 5 players and then score like Ronaldinho or Kaka does. But he is a different player whose main weapons are potent crosses and pinpoint passing. He never scored goals at Real. He never did at United. He was never expected to. His overall play helped Real in the title pursuit. Although he was not great, he was certainly not a failure.
The Galaxy has one a few MLS championships already and they sell a good amount of tickets already in their new stadium. They will sell some jerseys but they won't be the best selling jersey in LA unless basketball Kobe leaves town. They may make up their Beckham expenditure (tons of money) on fees for friendlies and if they can get a TV contract but they are already tied up with Fox Soccer Channel. We will have to wait and see if he has an effect like Pele (league folded a number of years after the hype) or like Gretzky (elevated hockey in Southern California and brought a second franchise to the area).
I wonder what they would be if they weren't together, because most of the hype is for the Becks, not just Beckham or Posh. Let's see how long it is before they play some part in some movie...
I've thought for along time now that what LA really needs a real rugby team, not the overpaid, overweight oafs they watch lumbering about twice a week...
As already mentioned, Beckham isn't a goal scorer and that, I think, will be his downfall. I just can't see the American public's interest in football growing, based on someones great passing ability. A top striker scoring 50 goals in a season would do much more for the popularity of the sport over there I reckon.
Real Madrid claim they made more than £300m during David Beckham's four years at the club. Obviously, thats because he is popular in Europe, in states it would be opposite story and that will not help them either. But good for him, to rest in the end of his career
well, beckham does not goal caz he is playmaker. his job is make sure he make striker pass the ball and they score. i like the way he play soccer. he is one of the best player, now lets see how he does in america, all eyes on him.
i don't think that American soccer fans are so dumb that they don't understand that you need crosses and passes to score, plus he'll act as an example. The only problem is that i can't see how he is going to stay motivated, therefore I think it was definetely a good deal, but for the Becks, not for Galaxy. And BTW, I can see that he is pretty famous here too, maybe not as much, but still a lot!
Well, i think 80% people in america dont watch or know anything about Soccer. All they care about American Football & ice-hockey & basketball. so yeah, i wonder if they knows soccer rules and stuff too...
I don't think it will do hardly anything to soccer in the U.S. Maybe for a year or two but after that it will be like Pele, who just kinda brought the league down with him!
Hardly anyoen cares about Hockey... I think you wanted to say Baseball! You got American Football, Baseball, and Basketball 1st 2nd and 3rd. Nascar is 4th Hockey is 5th and Soccer is 6th!
Posh Spice his wife especially, I think USA will host David and Posh Spice for their long haul HollyWood Style!
