Have you seen the new slideshow on Forbes.com? Here is the original link: http://www.forbes.com/2007/06/28/disney-budweiser-sex-ent-tech-cx_0629webaddresses_slide.html?partner=rss These are, apparently, the top 5 most expensive domain name sales... 1. Sex.com $12 million 2. Porn.com $9.5 million 3. Business.com $7.5 million 4. Diamond.com $7.5 million 5. Beer.com $7 million A couple of observations.. Do you think there is a healthy porn market online?? Do you think John Reese made a smart move buying Income.com?? Are men more active online than women? Sex and beer are primarily male dominated markets ... business is actually also male dominated. Of course the above are stats regarding domain name sales. If you look at overall web properties and which of them sold for the most, you'd have to toss in MySpace, Skype, Hotmail, PayPal, etc.
There 29,399 active DP members at this moment. If we all chipped in $12 million, we still would not have enough money to buy any of those domains. Based on todays market and the number of outstanding shares, each DPer would need to chip in $3.1 billion to have a chance at buying Google -- $294 million to start after Microsoft -- $48 million to start chasing eBay or $34 million to start pursuing Yahoo. Those other domains are a bargain! And mine are not even pocket change . . .
Do you think there is a healthy porn market online?? LOL. uh...yeah! Do you think John Reese made a smart move buying Income.com?? Yep! Are men more active online than women? No. They are just easier targets for advertisers. Tit's, Stupid videos, and music. Women tend to actually look for something online. Just like in life. Sex and beer are primarily male dominated markets ... business is actually also male dominated. Maybe dominated, but not populated. There are almost just as many women in business than men, and the number of women entrepreneurs has risen steadily over the last 5 years.
Yes there are alot of them many dont disclose not becuase, people will copy their sites but when people do reveal what they are earning people either say its photoshopped or they are lying (mainly with the "if they are rich why would they hang around dp" question) which is why most big earners are silent especially on digitalpoint.
The big question is whether the people that paid all that money for the top 5 most expensive domains have found a way to monetize their sites yet and recoup their initial investment. How much does sex.com make every day? That would be interesting to learn the answer.
Why are people talking about Google and Yahoo? Those are full companies you would purchase. These are DOMAIN SALES. Meaning, no content, no business, no employees, NOTHING but the DOMAIN!
see a few months ago one guy sold off his domains on ebay and he walked out with about $80,000 ...had some dictionary names.the one that caught my eye was rambo.com sold for about 40,000$.i couldn't figure that one out, then about a month later I see that sly was making a sequel to the rambo series of movies, after doing good with the last rocky flick, makes more sense now ;maybe studio bought it..that's chump change for them
porn.com was earning 2-4k/day if I recall correctly. Look at traffic and I would assume similar earnings scaled to traffic. Though I just guess.
Does anyone know what happened with whitehouse.com? I remember it was pretty big when they were going to donate it and I haven't heard anything since. I wonder what that could have sold for.
Because, as with nearly every thread on DP, there is a large percentage of the readers who don't have a clue what is being discussed and chime in with nonsense.
