    Hi,

I paid a guy here on DP to submit my directory in 2000 free web directories. He is a well reputed guy and one of my friend actually told me about him. I don't want to tell his nick before i confirm if i am right or wrong :)

He sent me a report after about 25 days. Now i am checking and there are no results when i search for my link in free directories. Even when i submit my link directory shows no error. Because mostly directories do not allow same url submission again even it's approved or not approved. They simply shows an error that this url is already exists in database.

So what is that mean? Am i missing something or he sent me fake report of simple 2000 directories url?

It was not like paid $15 to submit in 2000 directories :) I paid him $600.

    How do you check?

I got a report and got about 400+ emails.

$600 paid for 4 different websites. So it was like $150 for each.

$600 for 2000 submits! That's very very expensive.

    Try submitting twice.

If at first, the site gets submitted and second time the directory rejects it, it means your link wasn't there, when you submitted the first time.

If you get similar results for a lot of directories, it can mean two things -

    1. You site is total crap and got rejected in most directories.
    or
    2. The service that you used is total crap - you got a lemon. :D.

You can always check linkdomain:www.yoursite.com on Yahoo to get most of the backlinks to your site. See if some of the directories he submitted to are listed among your backlinks.

You're right - some directories won't allow multiple submissions. Some do, or at least won't return an error. It just depends upon the directory.

Some directories will approve your link right away. Others take a month, or several months (very typical), or a year.

I have a directory submission service and a few days ago got a "congratulations, your site is approved" message for a website I submitted 16 months ago (and it was from a well-known directory).

But, on the other hand, just because someone offers a submission service doesn't mean they do it well.

I'm familiar with that service from both ends. In addition to offering directory submission services, I also own a niche directory. It gets many submissions from "SEOs" & "directory submission services" who submit sites very unrelated to our subject. Or they submit to the wrong category, or submit a poorly-written title and/or description, or otherwise don't follow our guidelines. So, those submissions are immediately disapproved.

Some folks who offer that service do a great job & promote your site as carefully as if it were their own. Unfortunately there are some others who just submit your site any old way - whatever's fast - not really caring if you actually get listed.

If your directory submission guy isn't following the rules, your listings will not be accepted by the directories. But maybe he's on the level & did it right.

Here is what I would do - email him and ask for a full report of the directories to which he submitted your site. If he wrote the descriptions (and/or titles), then ask him for a list of the ones he used. Check to see that they're well-written and describe your site objectively. Then check some of the sites to see if they listed your site.

He may be willing to forward you the site acceptance emails he received from the directories as well, or at least a list of sites that sent an email saying your listing was approved. (Hopefully he kept them.)

If all seems well, then just hang in there - it does take some time to get listed.

    cheers ~
    Denise
