Hi, I've run about five campaigns in the last week (my first full week with Adwords), and I've had a number of problems, starting with display URL exceptions. Yesterday I got a violation for "Unacceptable Content," but al of my other campaigns are still running. Anyone ever get banned from Adwords for such violations? TIA.
You can get banned from Adwords...they threatened to ban an acquaintance of mine. I believe they only ban you for repeated violations of a particular guideline.
This is from last year but it was one of the more interesting "banned from adwords" cases I've seen. According to the post not only did the guys personal adwords account get banned but Google also banned the AdWords account owned by company he works for! Ouch.
This "you are giving them money" argument also holds no water when it comes to the Google slap. So even if they don't ban your account, they can ban ads, keywords, and entire campaigns--despite how much money you give them to help maintain the Google 767.
It sure does happen, and unfortunately it's finally happened to me. Google Adwords seems to have banned my account due to 'repeated' violations of the 'unacceptable content' policy, which in this case they described as 'template sites for ad networks'. So far, advertising 4 products has got me this violation: 2 monthly niche membership sites, Affiliate Radar (keyword conversion tracker), and finally, Keyword Elite. In the first 2 cases of the niche membership sites, there was a brief mention of adsense sites on their sales pages, whereas in the 3rd case, there was none, as Affiliate Radar is a keyword conversion tracker. For the 4th item KE, unfortunately Adsense is featured prominently at the top. Google gave me the 1st warning on July 7 after violations for products 1-3 above, so I replied them with an email stating the exact nature of those products, being niche business site memberships and a keyword conversion tracker and not adsense templates. They apologized for the inconvenience and said they would forward my queries to the technical team. Ok, so no more violations after that and my ads continued to run smoothly. In between July-Aug, yes I did have numerous disapproved ads due to inaccurate display URL (common as an affiliate marketer, where you try variations of a merchant's URL to avoid the double-serving rule and bidding wars), and occassionaly on trademarks like iphone, ipod, myspace, as and when I used them outside of the US. But it was the latest incidence of Keyword Elite that triggered the Unacceptable Content violation that spelt the death knell. Not sensing anything unusual, and thinking that editing disapproved ads became such a routine task, I just amended the display URL, and resubmitted the disapproved ad and keywords. This got through, thinking that it would get through just like for items 1-3 as well, as I also followed up with an email to Adwords explaining the same thing as before, why Keyword Elite is not an Adsense page generator but just merely a keyword research tool. Next thing I knew, my Adwords ads weren't running at all just a few hours later. So there goes my Adwords account (June 2006 - August 2007)... unless there is a magical way to get big G to revoke the suspension, which they keep saying is impossible. They wouldn't entertain my emails, calls, live chats, saying that I was hogging up their support resources and that their decision is final. They even rubbed it in by saying that they expect 'professional courtesy' from their advertisers. Sighh.....
