What happens if I 301 redirect all 404 pages to the homepage?

Well, then those pages would just have to be re-indexed under the new url. It's still better than getting 404 errors i guess.

SO anyone else agree i could just 301 redirect all the 404 pages? I dont care about the old pages, i just want the new pages indexed, and my homepage rankings to recover. All the links point to the homepage. What do you think?

I have heard that you want to keep the same URL as long as possible so that, the one URL gets a lot of attention.
