I'm sure you all watched the BBC journalist lose his cool in a big way on the news recently - quite a scream - LOL. I went to Scientology OFFICIAL website because its only fair to get what they say about themselves other than what critics say they say. Just sounds very similar to Buddhism to me - endless reincarnation only stopped by achieving 'enlightenment' - now rehashed and available to you for $300,000 US. (Why such life changing empowerment costs money is beyond me - surely if scientology is the salvation of the human race it should be free?) I guess that's why I prefer the gospel - its a free gift (much more appealing) Scientology believes man is something he is not. An immortal all powerful spirit. This was satan's first lie in the Bible - 'you shall not surely die' - i.e. man is naturally immortal. No man is not immortal - you get one shot at life - better make it a good one. Your thoughts?
Please do not mix up scientology with buddhism. You can say what you want about buddhism, but it is not dangerous. Scientology is negative, negative, negative and dangerous.
I wasn't speaking in specifics - more in the concept of past lives, self empowerment, etc - the similar underlying philosophy - you must see some similarities on that level?
L. Ron Hubbard was it seems to have been a friend of Alister Crowley - well known occultist - so I sure there is probably some of that philosophy interwoven as well. Certainly he was very anti-christian.
Yeah I saw it, it was a classic. What a complete and utter load of absolute sh*te Scientology is. Utter utter cobblers. Possibly the biggest SHAM religion in the entire world but L.Ron made a fookin fortune out of it so ya have to tip your hat to the guy for getting so many suckers to buy into it. He was a former fiction writer for christs sake lol!!!
I'm sure one of the people in the higher echelons of Scientology could convince you that there is providing you crossed their palms with the required amount of money.
I figured AGS would love scientology. He believes in another space alien lizard myths. This one fits right in.
Now, what has this to do with scientology/ buddhism similarities? My view is simply that scientology simply does not deserve to be mentioned together with buddhism.
LMAO mate as usual you just ain't paying attention. I have never ever mentioned lizards and BS like that. That is your fetish, not mine.
Both believe in past lives - surely that is some sort of similarity???!!! I could have chosen Hinduism which also has a similar past life belief.
Has anyone ever been in Scientology temple on an actual meeting?? I'm just curious because there is one church (that I know of) here in New York and I was planning to visit it some time. Cheers, Venetsian
I couldn't believe the sh*t that Scientology guy was saying to the Beeb guy and how aggressive he was towards him mate. For people like GT and the rest of the crazy crew to sprout on about Muslims and 40 virgins etc. makes me laugh when there are Americans and Europeans buying into this Scientology BS nonsense. I'm amazed how many Scientology members there are. Old L.Ron would be dancing with glee at how gullible people are if he were still to be alive today.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcendental_Meditation Transcendental Meditation is a relative bargain. Meanwhile, there are these things called libraries where you can read many books (there is from all accounts nothing fundamentally new about TM, as for Scientolgy, it's a secret ). The problem with Scientology is the cost and the trademark protections they use. So you won't learn until you've spent a lot of money if this is what they really believe.
You better don't. It starts very harmless, they show you books and videos from the founder, hopping somewhere in the djungle, ... take your detailed personalities, ... invite you to "cleaning" procedures (including full body massage), ... promising you everything while they get hold of your estates, money, heritage and more... You're under 24 hours surveilence, no meetings with anybody outside alone ... and more ...
Yup, Scientology is a load of crap, but don't a lot of religions ask you to give money or a proportion of monthly income? I don't really see the difference there myself? I'd be far more worried about the information fetish that the Scientologists seem to have.
The origins of reincarnation - at least as expressed in hindu and buddhist thought - as a concept, come from hinduism. The idea of enlightenment - salvation here and now, by one's own efforts, as opposed to a virtually limitless cycle of birth, death, rebirth, progressively moving to higher forms - is a buddhist concept. Buddhists believe the man, Buddha, "broke the mold," so to speak, cleaved the cycle, and taught others a means to find salvation, in one's lifetime.
