Web 2.0 = EVIL! Actually, a lot of people look at it as being cool AJAX effects and stuff, but I view it more as being "the period in time in which nearly every site accepts user generated content"
Depends mostly on what you're promoting. For some webmasters organic traffic is easy because they might be in a niche with little competition. For others it's promotion through social media, blogs, etc. Find a relevant blog and ask for a plug, if you have something newsworthy. You can also find a relevant social media site and bookmarking sites to use. You should get started asap!
I can't believe nobody has mentioned it yet (or have and I skipped over it). The only way to bring in big traffic fast and free is, no surprise here, EXPOSURE. Some said social media sites, yes... but it's not going to work for just any website. The bottom line is this: If you want people to visit your website then you have to give them something interesting, a reason to visit and a reason to spread the word. If your website or ideas are not remarkable (meaning they aren't really worth talking about) then you can forget about your website spreading like wildfire. If they are, then try to get the word out as fast as you can! Pay a GOOD writer for a proper press release, contact your local news station and go on TV... that will spread the word a lot quicker. If your website is just another run of the mill website, forget about social networks... nobody is going to pass your site on to others. If you do have an ordinary boring site; in my opinion you need to concentrate on building links with others in your niche. This will put you in front of readers that are already interested in your topic and therefore you will have a better chance of getting visited and having people return. Don't get too upset or discouraged... I'm in the same boat as you, so are 95% of the people here. I've got a couple of great sites with lots of unique and somewhat interesting content. They get regular visits and the traffic is always growing but I doubt they will ever get to the 1st page of any social networking site because it's not something that MOST people online are interested in. Cheers, Pete.
The reason why nobody mentioned exposure already is because it isn't an easy way to do such as she asked. You first have to come with an original idea and that isn't easy in my opinion. Organic traffic is traffic that comes naturally and isn't there becayse of a specific marketing campaign. Most of the times visitors are there because they found the site mostly through search engines and thought it could be valuable for something they wanted to know more about. You can get viral traffic if you create awareness of a product, company, brand or service. Maybe you can read some of these to make things more clear: http://ezinearticles.com/?cat=Internet-and-Businesses-Online:Traffic-Building
Nobody has mentioned yet abou writing or creating compelling content to get visitors to want to come visit your website. Spend some time thinking about what kind of topic or article or viral video would interest you and then make it for your site. Spread the word and then sit back and see what the results are. Then keep repeating it!
Try to submit to the: Best 23 Social Bookmarking Sites [June 2007] This should bring quite a lot of traffic.
Exactly my point. If you aren't doing something worth talking about, building traffic will never be fast, easy or cheap. You will always have to give up at least one of those... fast will require spending money, easy will require spending money to pay someone else to do the work and cheap will require a lot of work. The only advice for someone who doesn't have a particularly interesting website (don't get offended please, I fall into this category also) is to build content and links, take it slow... if you're looking for a fast and easy way you had better be prepared to spend money. If your website/idea is amazing, it will spread on its own.
I agree stay relevant to the thought and domain name! everything should wrap around your market especially for your targeted key phrases
Thanks everyone for the information. I've learned a lot just from this thread. Still, could someone explain to me what is organic traffic and what is viral traffic? Thanks!
Google this term>> what is organic traffic and what is viral traffic? and you will get your answer it a big leap from what your doing now"
I have no idea, beacuse there is no such a way,you have to work hard, spend a lot of time to promote your site, provide good cotent to your custmoers.than you will have a good site.So i would say the best way is run your website with good content.
Hi Chagen I think someone did answer your question re organic traffic/viral traffic above - however I found a link for you on Organic traffic Explaination of Organic traffic - just scroll down til you hit the header 'organic traffic' As far as I understand it, organic traffic refers to people who come across your site from search engines like google, directories and so on. Viral traffic I think comes from using unique ways to get your site noticed - a typical example is writing a free ebook with lots of links to your website that you give away for free. Lots of people download it, then maybe they put it on their website and lots more people download it. Pretty soon it's all over the internet and thousands of people have found the link to your website. People use the article submission sites like that too - they put a link too their website at the bottom and as soon as someone posts that article to another site there's another link for you. Oh I just found a link on viral marketing also on Wiki here
it depends on your site subject , some sites may get a lot of traffic especially those subject to money making stuff if your website sell something like Hosting for example I think PPC is good to gain customers plus mouth talk on forums
In answer to Grim`s question Web 2.0 refers to social bookmarking sites, such as diggit, myspace, facebook etc. My favourite ways to get traffic are: 1 submitting articles to directories such as ezine articles, go articles, isnare 2 Offering free ebooks - using an autoresponder, to produce a list. 3 blogging Hope this helps Gerry
I agree with you their everything you do online is based on viral marketing in such" but shes more targeting a more direct promo those are seo involved questions. we've all struggled to maintain a good online presence im sure thats viral marketing. target your key words and make sure you add them to the directories they will back you up in the long run . key word density is the key to your structure remember that"
