one directory of mine: www.thenextlink.com stuck in supplemental result (about 90% pages), how to get out? get more deep links to it?
I set the description same as the category name, can it be called unique? the thing I don't understand is that some my directory with quite strong backlinks won't have supplemental prob even I just set the description same as the category name.
Alteast 2-4 lines of some content in the Meta of the categories would be called a proper Description and it will help you get out of supplementary. Giving atleast top-level categories good descriptions will help you a lot.
most commonly, you get supplement results because of the same meta tag using in those pages. Write unique tag for each, especially title, and description.
try adding meta tags. be careful! i did get my pages pulled out of supplemental but it somehow got backfired. I got my SERPS hurt.
I had same problem with my directory. But I have re-add most of the catefory's keywords and description, 45% supplemental results disappeared, only the pages have not re-indexed left.
Can you please explain 301 redirect concept for directories ?? To get out of supplemental results : - Write unique Meta Description for each category. - Get quality PR links - Add unique listings in each category - Add content - Add feeds.
Perfect invitation for Supplementary to come in, I wouldn't advice it. MeetHere dude... always setup a www or non www re-direct in your .htaccess, someone links you in a different way, your site ends up getting indexed in 2 formats and a total loss of serp's n steps to acquire supplementary. I think Dave meant what I just said, pardon me if I am wrong Dave.
Absolutely. Also IMHO disable the rss feeds option. It creates more supplementals. And dont keep blank categories, add one or two sites to each and every category.
In my opinion it is not only unique content, but also very short descriptions. I blogged about it few days ago on my blog.
This is a good point. If your website is 100% out of supplemental, how do you know you're getting as much as you can from your "crawl budget"? Whereas if a few pages are supplementals, you know you're hitting the limits of what you can get indexed. By the way, the usual test for supplementals (* -djflksdajsadf) isn't working for me today, it's showing all site: results. Is anyone else seeing this?
a unique meta-descreption is enough to bring those pages out of the supplemental results. also populate those categories, don't keep them empty, and if you still don't succed, then add some articles or rss in those categories! cheers
