Has anyone heard of an automatic Sitemap ping utility? Something that'll ping sitemap every time my sitemap is changed?

Huh? You want to ping your sitemap? What would that accomplish? Do you have your sitemap setup as a RSS feed? Are you looking to ping Google?

Google let's you tell them when you have changed your sitemap (not sure if they pay attention, but okay). I got a script that generates a sitemap daily, and when done it calls this url:

    http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/ping?sitemap=http://www.mygreatdomain.com/sitemap.index.xml
    Code (markup):
is that what you were looking for?

I'd prefer something more automated. Just enter your sitemap URL here and it takes care of the rest.

Yea, ping google hard enough and let them remove you from their index.

Pinging the sitemap is totally useless and will hurt you most of the time. Google is the only one to decide when to download your sitemap and crawl your pages.

I guess this answers the question I was going to ask, so I won't bother.

Incidentally, there is an automated sitemap creator which uploads your new sitemap and pings G at pingoat.com

Hm, the VBA script I use can ping G but it doesn't come get right away -- at least not according to the web status page. I haven't looked at my logs to check this point.

But it's updating once every 12 hours or so which is plenty for me anyway.
