OH NOOoOoOooOoO!!! Not another whole new thread that is started just because some webmaster still stuck in 2001 SEO mentality got a dumb DMOZ link! Let me repeat what I posted on the other thread a minute ago: Webmasters that are up to speed with SEO don't crow when they get a DMOZ link. A lot of them no longer bother with submission. There's the old "submit and forget" and in 2007, this is "forget to submit." DMOZ may no longer exist tomorrow.
Congrats! How long did it take to get listed? I submitted my personal blog to DMOZ back in late 2003 and it wasn't until mid-2005 that they actually accepted me in!
Anyone have any tips on getting accepted into DMOZ? I applied several months ago and still havn't heard from them.
You should ask to move this to the DMOZ forum : http://forums.digitalpoint.com/forumdisplay.php?f=66 As for the PR, it depends on what the PR where your link is actually linked to. Find you link and check that page for PR it most likely will not be PR8 but the link should help some. How long did it take you to get listed?
I'd like to know some as well. I got my site accepted over 18 after I submitted it and I have no idea why the wait was so long or what made them finally let it in. Is this kind of delay normal?
If getting listed in DMOZ is your "dream" may I suggest that you lack imagination? You dream is to get a link with guaranteed zero non-bot traffic? Or is it because you'll pretty much get no PR, no matter how much PR the page you'd be listed on has? See for yourself. You can find countless sites that that been listed for over 2 years, and have a PR of zero. Incidentally, these sites have been around a long time, and often have only one link; only the DMOZ link. The DMOZ link is not good enough to raise their PR from PR0 to PR1. That's an extremely weak link, weaker than you'd expect from a link hosting page of PR 5 or 6, for example.
I have one entry, does DMOZ email you if your entry has been unsucessful? I have submitted my site to three categories which are not that busy!
You will not receive an email. If the categories aren't busy, be prepared for a maximum wait. Luckily, DMOZ links have been worthless for a couple of years, webmasters are a little slow "gettin it," so don't worry about it. AOL might can DMOZ tomorrow, for all we know. DMOZ was offline for 2 months, AOL didn't bother keeping a backup, that should tell you something. Haha. I am lucky too, I found a penny on the sidewalk just last week. You and I are equally endowed with luck, except that my penny is worth a little bit more than your DMOZ link.
Oh so many replies in such less time !! I am delighted , guys !!! It took 2-3 weeks to get listed.. and i am so happy !! MY site is alexa rank 60,000
Hey kid... obviously you are skipping my posts! You're happy for nothing. It's not an accomplishment, and you will not gain anything, either. Neither traffic, or measurable PR.
I don't know who that Pay Attention! person is, but they seem pretty darn smert. Have them send me a PM because I'd like to talk to them about Life, the Universe, and Everything. That was worth saying a second time due to how true it is... It was worth saying a 3rd time cuz it made me giggle!
