What are backlinks with attribute "no follow" worth?

    Hi!

That's my question, are they really useless for SEO or still they have a value, especially if they are on high PR pages?

    Thanks!

Interesting question, I'm also wondering this.

Wikipedia mostly has no follow attributes, but they drive much traffic, could this add value to SEO?

    Traffic doesn't mean good RANKINGS

and a nofollow links is 00000000000 for seo

Who would buy a nofollow link even if is in a hightraffic site (wikipedia is an exception of a site that i might whant ven a nofollow link)

All incoming links from good sites have some effect; The no-follow link might not be passing the page's PR today; but some future algorithm change might include them in some way; for example, Google might decide that if the total incoming links including no-follow is more than certain number, then the no-follow links also have some weight since all bloggers have no-follow switched on.

They'll be worth purely what the traffic is worth that they send to you.

As far as I am aware ONLY Google pays any attention to the no follow (although that could change at any time for some of the other SEs). So these links could still be good for SEO when it comes to other SEs. Sure Google is the 'big dog' but they arent the only SE out there.

Whenever you have the option of getting a backlink with the no follow it is best to ask yourself, "Will I actuallly get traffic from this link?" If the answer is yes then go ahead. Though the link will be worth little if any for SEO if it generates traffic it could still be worthwhile.

NoFollow links won't count as a backlink but you could still get a lot of traffic from them.

has no real seo value, however if its a site in the same niche and that site recieves traffic, its just as valuable as a pr5 link that has no traffic.

i would prefer traffic over pr any day.

In term of traffic, even a hidden TinyURL if drives traffic to your site is worth it of course ..

I don't think anyone knows exactly what a no follow link is worth from an SEO perspective. I tried to find an answer to this a while back because I knew I would be able to easily create some no follow links to my sites. The general consensus was "not worth a lot if anything."

I wouldn't rush out to buy a bunch of no follow links but if some organically get created then cool. It's not as if it's they will harm you in any way.

At this time, Yahoo, and I believe MSN do not recognize 'no follow'. You can compare your backlinks reports to see this. Google will list most of the backlinks that Google sees (not including 'no follow' links). However, Yahoo and MSN will list entirely different backlinks. Not to forget Alexa listing different backlinks as well. I don't believe they care about 'no follow' either.

If Google is most important to you, then 'no follow' would be very important.

Nofollow just tells Google to go away, you don't want that know do you?

Great reply. Yahoo will recognize the link and index the website, but it wont give it a "vote." Ask will index and vote. Nothing for G.

Any search engine algorithm that relies on some sort of traffic data will benefit from a nofollow link. Google will not treat it as a link for PR and search results.

Not worth buying in my opinion if SEO is all you want. Otherwise, if the link would be widely spread then the increase in traffic will ultimately help with natural backlinks.
