Most are dropped as others have said. www.cdhnow.com currently has PR0 category pages, but only because the main focus of the site changed, but it still has all the content as before too. This will change soon.

Yes I understand now, after reading the other thread. They allow free submissions because they can get a higher price when they sell the directory.
    thanks.

Thats just great. But to understand and know quality directories --(if you need them often) -- please visit this section and you will know them and their owners.
As mystikmedia said- there are some difference. His www.cdhnow.com is a very well promoted PR6 directory --but due to shift on focus its categories do not have PR as of now --but be 110% sure that they will have minimum PR5 & maximum PR8:p in August. Directories depend more on their owners --and how serious they are.

    Categories-- PR6:eek:

I bought the directory from the original owner in March 2007. It's not a dropped domain - check the whois. Being a free directory, it may not have been promoted heavily initially as the home page was PR2 and the internal category pages were PR1/0, but I'm not sure as I wasn't familiar with the directory or owner when it came up for sale.

After our acquisition, we changed the directory structure and enabled mod rewrite for category urls and detail page urls as well. Categories were moved, deleted, merged, etc. as we felt it was necessary in order to grow the directory as we thought best.

As a result the PR is not quite what one would expect; many subcategories were not in place long enough prior to the snapshot along with almost all of the details pages. Some third level categories do have toolbar PR of around 4, which is consistent with the top level category PR. The home page PR of 4 is some what of a mystery to me, but I expect it'll all even out after the next update.

I highly doubt that a PR4 dropped domain would come back with PR6/PR5 subcategories after a single PR update. ;)

PS - eWebPages isn't a dropped domain either. I registered it last June and there's no history prior to that.

If anyone has any questions regarding either of these directories please PM or IM me anytime.

    @Creed

Im sure everyone is aware of your talents creed and whether its a dropped domain
or recently made directory im sure its in good hands no matter how you came to have it.. ;)

    Side Note:
Let me also say that i have a few dropped domains or whatever you want to call them..
the difference between myself and others is that QBCs wont invest into thier sites were
myself and a few others will and we dont sell any domains shortly after (which is QBC behavior).

Most common QBC acts committed with Dropped domains..

    1. Advertise the false or old PR rank for sales.... (come see my PR6 Directory  )
    2. Advertise by mouth with No financial backing ( $ self explanitory $)
    3. Advertise and sell the domain a few months later ( oppps sorry had to sell )

    thx

    Currectly said by malcolm..

Those directories are built on dropped domains.. so no inner page pr..

Also such people sell sitewide links for very cheap price - $10-20/year
So check backlinks, Indexed pages before submitting.

Not all are dropped domain! It can be 50% not 99% ;)

Many site converted from another topics to directory.

BTW, I sold 4/5 domain after last PR update, all domain was PR 5. Most of them are Directory now with main Page PR5! No Inner PR.

I registered those domain without any PageRank and I made it ;)

And additionally: in my case most of detail pages and some categories lost PR due to minor change for URLs system.
Even if I did some 301 redirections - it cannot take effect so soon.
However after update - all changes should affect PR much better than before.

dargre - a bit off-topic, but I wonder if you will be offering free submissions to Link Forever again? I have your directory on my list of free directories, but wonder if I should keep it there?

    Thanks!
    all best,

Yes I know your list and I know I'm there.
And I'm going to reopen free links, maybe also reciprocal with some PR backlink.
Just made a function to check reciprocal PR before submission.
However first must finish all new functions and test it.

Ah, thanks. I'm just in the process in submitting a client's site to the directories, and noticed free submissions were disabled.

I'm going to do a major update to the list in the next week or so, so just wondered...

Thanks for your great directory -

    cheers ~

Some dropped domains can cost $xx,xxx , I know because i have paid it and google loves these sites the same as brand new domains , after 6 months of effective SEO a good dropped domain is just as good if not better than any from scratch website. If you invest the time and money you can make any website the best in terms of traffic ,seo and pr. Lazy people who buy a cheap pr5 domain then slap a 30.00 script with a free template will make about 10 homepage link sales and thats it.
Give that same domain to somebody who pays for services and works hard on it they can make $xxxx a month on same site.So at end of the day it is the OWNER who detemines the value of the site not the history of the domain itself.
