OK lemme try to analyze everything for a minute:
Muslims are not used to free speech. I mean REALLY free speech. You can see proof of that in some of the arguments given here. They are not used to someone questioning them within their community, so they have little practice in discussing and even arguing in a civilized manner. Where many of them are, many of us "having the nerve to disagree" would get hung, stoned, our dicks cut off or who knows what.
That is what they are used to.
I have seen arguments between Christians and Atheists and Jews.
But we are all used to growing up with diversity and have learned to accept the presence and opinions of those who have different beliefs.
So what we are witnessing here is a great example as to what Islam can do to people.

Shit, I have received death threats in form of red reps.
    Even publically in the threads.
The solution to that is NOT to let them win and get away with that sort of attitude IMO.

You silence people, the issues won't go away.

It's a fucked up world we live in, and like someone said before
"Let's keep the R and P section running so that those who don't want to read it, won't have to look at it."

    Do you seriously think that?
Dude, do you think Muslims have nothing to talk and debate in their societies other than Religion? OK, in religion they have not seen disagreement but they do face different opinions on many different aspects in our lives other than religion.

Some people just do not have nerves to face a counter argument, he can be a Muslim as well as non-Muslim. Some Muslim guys loose the temperament little easier because sometime others starts disrespecting comments about their religion, their prophet and Allah in addition to just disagreement. And yes, Muslims are quite very conscious about these things.

I think anyone would mind if I call his mother a whore. I see both things quite similar.

So, in short .. we do have nerve to disagreement .. but we do not have nerve to disrespect of religion and prophet.

I respect your religion, so I demand same in return.

Well said. Anyone who have issues with religious thread should keep himself away from religious sub-forum.

You know, we can say whatever we want about any religion. If you think your truth is the only truth, than what do you care what others think?

OK, I'm game! Please point me to a post where a Jewish member tries to convince the rest of us that his religion is the best.

    Thanks!

The closer an issue is to us, the more it hurts, the more pain it causes to others, the more we think about it, and the more we need to reflect on our personal opinions.

    No, not anything.

We can put forward our disagreement, we can argue, we can question people about their religion .. but can we also disrespect their religion, their holy books etc?

You can if you want to....in the end you are going to have to answer to God, and no one else...so if you are willing to ask for forgiveness (if you screwed up), does it really matter?

Other than answering God, you still cannot do that.

You're wrong. Being a Christian I have heard all forms of insults and that doesn't bother me one bit. But when Muslims make comments about Americans deserving to be killed, that is where the line needs to be drawn.

Do you see the difference here?

I would like to comment on the respecting one's religion issue. Respect is needed on these forums from all sides. This is a webmaster community where we come and share our knowledge. As webmasters we should be an example to others, we should respect each other just like we respect each others' work. It's really easy to disrespect another person and race for that matter but it takes a strong human to show RESPECT. Don't hide behind your screens, if you have to, at least be respectful.

If for person X, its OK to call her mother a whore .. does it mean its OK for everyone to call her mother whore? Come on.

Just like you don't like such comments about Americans, Muslims don't like (insluting) comments about religion.
Everyone have his bottom line. For you, its country, for Muslims its religion. Is it so hard to understand?

I have never seen any, whether a "moderate" nor a "radical" muslim, who has ever defended another religion. Instead i continiously hear, kill them who don't believe.

How does that sound, - home for you?

What about the pope not to long ago?

Whoa! Who is invading other countries for the second coming of Jesus?

"At church one day (DeLay) listened as the pastor (John Hagee), urging his flock to support the administration, declared that 'the war between America and Iraq is the gateway to the Apocalypse.' DeLay rose to speak, not only to the congregation but to 225 Christian TV and radio stations. 'Ladies and gentlemen' he said, 'what has been spoken here tonight is the truth of God.'"

Pastors like him do not represent Christianity. Christianity is a religion of peace and love preached and practiced by Jesus. Unlike other "prophets".

John Hagee is a typical representative of american christianity. I can give you numerous examples of american christian superstars that hold the same views as Hagee.
