Is it the end of PDA’S

The going was good for the personal digital assistant (PDA) and rare was the IT manufacture who did not have some sort of PDA in its portfolio, be it Sony, IBM, or Dell.

Today PDA seems to be on its last legs, overtaken by smart phones and UMPC’S (Ultra Mobile PC). Even Palm (a brand synonymous with PDA’S) seems to have given upon it and is instead focusing on its smart phone range and on “Smart phone companions”

Do you agree to my opinion? What do you have to say on the above mentioned, PDA issue?

nah. PDA is still good.. not really into all-in-one smartphone. One dead, all gone. Better put them apart.

I wouldnt say it is the end of PDA's yet although they will continue to merge in to 1 unit.

PDAs are silly things, a laptop is awkward to use, imagine typing on a PDA! So maybe it's just an assistant for notes and a diary, etc, but at that price! A smart phone that can do the same stuff wins imho

PDAs are cheap these days, and you can get good keyboards for them if you don't want to use a stylus.

I've got a few PDAs, and use them all the time - but I do think their days are numbered.

I had a 02 XDA mini - it's a PDA and phone in one. The phone quality was poor, and it kept locking up all the time. I say buy a phone if you want a phone, and buy a piece of equipment that does exactly what you want it to do if you need a PDA. Integrated devices are all still in experimental stage in my opinion...and the iPhone will probably be a prime example of this when the problems surface in a few months time....

PDA's are still widely used...I think most companies realized though that they would leave it to the big competitors, such as palm and HP...although people are starting to go with the phone version (I have a Palm Treo myself), I still run into many people who use PDA's all the time.

I think so. With the release of Iphone and other mobile phones that can double as a PDA.

Yup, I don't see any reason why one should buy a (just a)PDA as opposed to a smart phone.
