    Hehe...

The problem with red is that its based on assumption. Even if it's signed, there is really no way to tell who gave what without access to the Admin Control Panel (maybe the mod panel depending on preferences).

In theory a person could do the math, figure out their rep power, and start signing other peoples names that matched. It's a powerful tool to lower the rep of two people you dislike.

Not saying it happened here, just saying it's one of the possibilities.

You must keep in mind, your negative is at half power. so it's -5.

I gave you red rep to illustrate the pettiness of it. I don't care who gave me red, I feel that anyone who drops ten rep points on people is abusing the system. Self-righteous red rep spazzes are far more annoying than the green rep whores you are criticizing.

Re-Read what you just wrote and then re-think your entire world view.

"killing people is wrong, so I'm going to kill people to prove it"

Yeah, yeah, the example is extreme, but the logic remains....You dislike the system because it's open to abuse, so you abuse it to prove your point? Have you considered all the other people "abusing" the system could also be proving the point...making the only actual abuse of the system is the petty crap YOU are doing?

I don't mind if it takes -50 or above. I don't give negative reps for no reasons.

Not to mention, I have quiet a big budget as well. ;)

You guys are proof of what I said, you are fighting over a reputation system and wasting time when you could be doing other things with your time.

This seems to be a prime occupation of DP members and this is why the system should be done away with here!

I assume that people who are so frivolous about it certainly have no call to object when it happens to them. At any rate, I have applied my very first red rep ever here, because I find the stifling of free expression implied by this attitude so annoying. I think my worldview is quite safe...I weighed in my opinion, and was attacked for it, as I expected. I thought about whether I should post here, knowing that the red rep war would begin, and decided to have my say rather than be intimidated.
As I say, I'm proving a point. What good is a forum where you are afraid to express your opinion because some anonymous tightass might decide to flame your rep?
And that was why I applied the rep...not out of retribution. To illustrate the point. And no, we are not talking murder here...get a grip.
What petty crap am I doing? I am participating in a forum. I expressed my opinion. I am continuing to respond in a way appropriate to the other members behavior.
Of course, I now wish I had ignored this ridiculous thread.

I wish I could red rep them, but I don't cos I don't want to lose my precious points! :D I'll do that when I'll have enough of them. For now I only red rep people who really suck!

All arguments aside, asking for rep is clearly against the entire point of the rep system. People should distribute rep based on a personal decision, not an outside request.

All of my thoughts aside, I can't see this improving any time soon. Parts of the BST section are crippled with spammy threads, rep exchange has gone mad, people have hundreds of iTrader points and have done nothing but give things away...it's DP armageddon!

I agree, especially since you lose certain functions if your rep drops too low. It is essentially usless as a real predictor of anything. It makes a forum a bit more like Romper Room more often than not.

yes..agree.. rep should be given voluntarily...not asked for

maybe can put something like "rep is appreciated if you like my service but not necessary", that would be a fairer statement.

Also, for paid services, i think they already got their monetary reward, should not ask for rep unless they provide extra mile service.
