you could make a directory which would cost you very little to start maybe even free if you want to use free scripts & you already have hosting... You could spend $500 marketing the directory =)

Do directories still make good money these days? It sounds like there is so much competition already that it doesn't really make sense getting in to it now.

If it is still a good thing to get in to though, what makes a good, inviting directory apart from high PR?

I think they can still make money I suppose not as well in the past yet its an easy site to take care of all you do is accept links lol... But I think PR is high these days when selling links I guess looking professional, traffic etc..

Thanks hitboy. I'll consider making one since you say it would cost very little.

But you know what just hit me like a sack of bricks? I WORK in the freaking online gaming (gambling) industry as a tech. I have access to lots of internet gaming information (living in antigua, we have a lot of gaming businesses here). I think I will do a site about that. A conglomerate of blog, forum and arcade.

What are you guys thoughts on this? Is the internet gambling niche too competitive or would this be something good to get in to?

yea that is a great idea... i would recommend online gaming but im not sure about the gambling sites... A lot of the gambling industry including sites lost tons of revenue due to USA players no longer playing..

I can use this to my advantage by providing information to Americans of what sites they still can play at and how to go about doing so. These are things I already know about.. I am getting excited already :D

Um, You could try a casino, 500 bucks isn't going to take you far you should know by setting up and selling your forum what exactly is needed in terms of work. duplicating past success is not always easy, however id agree with most of the members here you have to start some place. Good Luck

If I use a vBulletin forum and premium skin for the forum then it will cost me between $320 and $380 to set it up fully with a good reliable host (i dont go for those cheapy $5/month hosts). The blog will be free (wordpress) and I dont know much about the arcade yet. That still leaves me with over $100 to work with which is a lot more than I had with my previous site.

The only thing I spent money on for my last site was hosting and about 2 years into its life, vBulletin and then just before selling, a premium skin. No money was spent on marketing. So I think I can do a lot this time with $100+ for marketing (or more if I don't use vBulletin off the bat).

But alas, feel free to point out any flaws in my plan. You guys know more about making the big bucks than I do anyways.

In my opinion sales websites are the easiest to manage, yet one of the hardest to get moving. ecommerce is all about the marketing. A decent looking website is in demand and quick responses to emails. Perhaps find a dropshipper to a unique product that you have in mind that people can't just go to their local store and pickup?

See, I've thought about this but have no idea how these things work or how to get started on it. Does it involve me actually having to purchase whatever product and keep them in stock and then ship the products myself or would I be working as a middle man? What is a dropshipper?
