I'm learning ASP.NET probably will do PHP once I got my grip on this, but I'm just wondernig why do you choose PHP over ASP.NET? I heard that's just because PHP is compatible with all servers, is that all? or there's other reasons behind it..?
Hi ,share my idea . It's up to your preference ,I haved used both and like them both. .php will be good due to it's opensource and more free contributions, good for poor man like me . But if I have unlimited budget ,asp is my choice for enterprise level sites. Regards
what budget are you talking about? server price is just the same thing monthly.. :-/ plus, you can make your Windows with server anyway... :-/
You can do pretty much anything with Php that you can do with Asp. Php plugins and extras are usually found for free because of its open-source nature.. Its really a matter of taste which of the language you use.
I prefer PHP because it's open source. I started out learning ASP at work and can still remember when I first heard about PHP. I went out and bought a book on it that lunchtime and never looked back.
Php if you have the usual *nix server with Apache. .Net if you have a Windows server. I think it's easier to develop with Aspx/C# than with php. At least if you are doing something serious. Serious==Big
I dont find windows hosting to be expensive and I have run a hosting company since 2001 which offers both solutions. Down to which language to choose... I personally do not know either buy find .Net a little easier to troubleshoot. Performance wise, I have seen some good apps run in both languages reliably.
Dude,.........lmao thats funny Anyway - Can you do /clean-urls with aspx? If not then I would say php rules, as I am a true php fan
Oh really , that would be cool . Can anyone confirm that >? Not saying I don't believe you Matt, You just didn't sound sure
Sorry if this is a bit long. I just thought it was very well written and thorough. http://marty.anstey.ca/programming/php/articles/ Very good read: To be fair there are ways to run ASP on a *nix box but its pretty much impossible to find a host that does that. From http://www.blazonry.com/devnotes/phpasp1.php: Another good read: http://www.oracle.com/technology/pub/columns/hull_php2.html
I was initially going to learn ASP, but Micro$oft required me to upgrade to windows XP professional just to do it locally. PHP was free and easy to setup. PHP is also apparently faster, and can handle more users at once (I was told of an ASP content management system in ASP that could only handle 50 users at once!? lol - maybe not true?). + The PHP logo is a nice bluey/purpley logo type thing. That won me over! lol
Im not a programmer so I am only going on what clients have told me I think it might be called Rewrite.Net. For those who think .Net cant handle loads, check out plentyoffish.wordpress.com. Markus has mentioned his .net setup a few times and how many page views it can handle. For me... I have no clue which is best I have seen both perform very well and occasionally seen php perform real bad as well as .net. It all depends what code you use I think.
