Currently which type of hosting account you are using? How much space and bandwidth is utilized by your forum?

It on a dedicated server that my web designer has but it is to expensive....She was going to host all her websites there......Didn't realize how much it was going to be to secure it.

She didn't realize that it would be that expensive.

    Not sure on the bandwith

I imagine during football season we could have up to 2000 member online at one time.

Hmm...visit the WHT forums dedicated offers section.
You'd get great deals there. ;)

Hey, i'm trying to get my own sports forum started... how did you go about getting people to your forum?

I use netfirms for my hosting right now. 200gb storage and 2000gb/month of transfer. I think that should be enought. I just need to get off of the ground.

no shared host which you have listed including netfirms and dreamhost will host your forum if it has 2000 or even 200 members online, they will suspend your account for server CPU abuse and there is concurrent mysql connections limit in shared hosting so there cant be more than 100 ppl accessing your forum. You need a dedicated server and a very good one so increase your budget to about $200 monthly atleast. :)

what is the specs of the current server? don't even think about shared hosting or vps you will need a medium spec server for that amount of users online.

Hello. I currently have two dedicated servers, one powerful box that only runs my main website, and one semi-powerful box that runs all of my clients' websites and whatnot. As of late, my main website hasn't really been doing all that great so I've been looking for another use for my main box. I'd be willing to host you there for free as long as you agree to put up my Google or Adbrite ads (size and location are negotiable). Please PM me for more information if you are interested. Thanks. :)

BTW, my main box is a newer Xeon dual-core with 4GB RAM, a couple SCSI drives, and a 40Mbit unmetered connection. :)

Dreamhost is a extremely good hosting service, you get great support, an incredible amount of storage and bandwidth for an extremely low price. They also normally have promos going which could get you hosting for as low as $25 for the first year.

You're going to need a dedicated server and a solid one at that. If you do in fact hit upwards of 2000 users online at some points even one machine may not work out to well unless it is really high speced. Otherwise splitting MySQL and web server up may be a good idea as well.
