Most of my backlinks are from article marketing. I update my site regularly with content in the form of my blog hosted on my domain. That's really all there is to it for me.

site maps are evil and keyword meta tag has never been supported by google.

I'd go with the latter

 

go to joomla exstension directory and get those SEO component for joomla( firendly urls, meta tag generators , 301/mod_rewrite , etc)
onsite optimize the page so that the code is clean and all the H1 meta and other google loving tags are in place
then promote the site like a mad man by making links !

 

its really important to have your best keyword in the page title, first position..as well as submit your site using that same keyword.

If your KW is "free dating ebook" put this in the page-title and submit with this as description too. This is a very simple but essential on-site SEO tip.
