I've recently been thinking about starting another directory, i think ultimately thought i want to steer clear of the general crowd and (as with my PR5 webmaster directory) look at concentrating again on a specific niche. Obviously i understand that essentially the earning potential of a directory is very reliant on the owner promoting, link building and generating a quality site - Aviva, Alive are such names to name a few. However my decision is really what industry has and would potentially generate a good, strong earning potential? For example Real Estate is a huge and profitable industry, what other niches are there that are big enough and interested enough to submit to a niche directory? Are there any noticable niches missing?
Ooops - Competitor Well- I think real estate is really cool. Business & Commerce is also good. I have registered a Real Estate Directory domain couple of months back-- but due to time constraints can't make it. I also plan and a domain to have a S...y directory
I don't know if these are niche enough for you, but "Business" and "Shopping" would seem to be popular. Anything to do with the internet as well - e.g. "SEO."
There are many real estate directories already exist. I have checked into it some months ago, but I decided not to create one. I wasn't sure how much I could devote myself for it. Of course, it's possible to rank high with the keyword if you promote heavily. Then you can expect lots of submissions. FYI; Real estate directory is 3 x popular than travel directory. Many top real estate directories got PR5 +
Web hosting if you got some PR. Hosts are pagerank sluts in my experience and will buy links like crazy. This market may be flooded... not sure.

Maybe casino directory? They are always hungry for links and make good profit with affiliate programs=have money to invest in links.
Yer but do they get to submit... anyways i have a good PR section for design companies on my webmaster directory. Well that would be a webmaster directory but since i already own a webmaster directory and its ranked #3ish on Google im setting my sights on a new challenge! Thought about that and actually tried that a while a go, i even got a domain and unique phpLD template done... the problem is link building and also being very careful recieving payments via paypal as (i believe) they frown upon adult related content...? Again the same sort of problem as adult related content really... Im starting to potentially like the real estate idea however possibly making it more targetted towards a UK market possibily...
