Has anyone read any good books that really, really helped in succeeding in AdWords? Maybe one that offers lots of different scenarios?
The problem with using a book for reference is they can become outdated pretty quickly. PPC has evolved at a fairly rapid pace. A book can give you general help, but online references will probably be your best bet. Google is rolling out new features all the time so your PPC reference should be dynamic in nature. This forum will help you and you should check out the sticky AdWords FAQ at the top. I'll let some of the other poster recommend a good ebook. Here is PPC resource as well. Andrew Goodman's book (Winning Results with Google AdWords) is pretty good for bedrock ideas and concepts but way out of date. I seem to recall an updated version is due later this year. Perry Marshall has a book out, not read it so can't vouch for it.
Read Andrew Goodman's book first, then Perry Marshall's soft back, then Marshall's latest e-book (lots of case studies).
There are quite a few ebooks around on Adwords but Perry Marshall's (http://www.perrymarshall.com/adwords/index.htm) is the best I've read for good foundational stuff. He updates it fairly regularly so it tends to be pretty up to date with the latest goings on at Google. Once you've got the basics down you can pick up some more information in some of the others (Adwords 180, Adwords Killer, Adwords Confessions, etc) but I wouldn't go out and spend a bunch of money on them all at once.
There are no AdWords secrets, like you'll find advertized on many sites. You need to know how AdWords work and come up with good selling ads. Don't be suckered into becoming an affiliate and then spending loads on AdWords: Why Affiliates Are Losing Money on AdWords
I found a really good ebook that helped me in succeeding in adwords was brad callens "google adwords made easy" I am actually able to offer anyone a free copy of this e-book in which i have been authorised to do so. and can be dowloaded from http://www.fishingtackleshop.com.au/awmadeeasy_signed_branded.pdf This helped me succeed and also save a hell of a lot of money on wasted clicks and failed campaigns that cost me thousands. I also use a really good tool by brad callen called keyword elite. this has saved me heaps! (more info on this tool also in the e-book). The e-book is very helpful is 85 pages and hope it helps any one that is needing some more information on sucessful adwords campaigns.

I agree with the earlier points, that all of these books become outdated very quickly, and that the information is generally freely available - regular visitors to DP won't hear a great deal of new information, but I doubt they'll learn much from these books anyway...

Perry Marshall's definitive guide to google adwords. (it's at borders now). All other ebooks... just his stuff re-hashed. Great tips, great newsletter. This guys good!
Absolutely disagree. His guide virtually ignores Quality Score, and barely mentions your conversion rate. These are the two most critical factors when optimising a campaign. His guide has some useful ideas on writing advert text, but he seems to think (at times, at least) that maximising the clickthrough rate is the ultimate objective. There are better guides out there (like mine - I know I'm biased - decide for yourself).
Try a few e-books, but not the "make a million in two hours with adwords". Normal books are outdated. Even better just read vlogs, ask questions on forums and try the help centre of adwords.
I make it a habit not to rely on any one school of thought. If I want to be a success at something I read everything I can get my hands on. This way I can fully understand all the different approaches and form my own decision as to what's going to work for my business. The gospel according to me, so to speak. So my advice is to read it all. You never know what's going to inspire that "aha!" moment for you. Good luck!
How to Guarantee Failure Using Adwords Oh and Perry Marshall was the first, but his stuff is so old it's not even useful anymore. He really needs to do an updated version as so many things have changed since he wrote it.
