After about a year of slowly working on the site, I've made it to number one in google for two of my target search terms. I'm top ten for the rest of my targets. The site is the one in my sig, and the main search term I was targeting was 'edinburgh florist'. Pretty much all I needed to learn I learned by reading the posts on this forum, the good ideas and the bad, so thank you DP and all it's members. What I've also learned is that I may be #1 today but I have to keep working if I want to maintain that, so no sitting back for me, I'll just keep doing what I've been doing this past year. Thanks guys
congrats! that term is not that competitive! just 331,000 results! but then being there at the top makes it really special! you can remove "," and "&" from the title! and replace it with, "|" this will improve your rankings on other related terms aswell!
Thanks for all your comments. Ok, that term is not so competitive but it's still a result for me. One of the other terms I'm currently #1 for is 'edinburgh flowershop', its a bit more competitive with 1,960,000. On your other point, I already replaced some characters with | but I'll look at it again. Thanks. It's hints like that thats got me here today.
Congrats on your results..... Good SEO involves patience, hard work, and dedication as well as everything you'll learn here..... great work....
Hmmm.... Off the top of my head, and in no particular order; research your keywords/phrases to know what to target (http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword/ is great) make your page titles different to each other, but relevant to your target keywords use alt text to add keywords/phrases into the page keep your code clean and valid build links every day - and use varied and relevant anchor text did I mention build links EVERY DAY listen to others and watch and learn, this is a constantly evolving process. I'm sure there are loads more things, but these are just off the cuff. The answers are all out there, in fact, they're pretty much all in here (DP I mean)!
