I used web rings years ago. I am now wondering if there would be PageRank value in being in a web ring. They end up being reciprical links but many of the sites on my ring are PR6. To those of you who are unfamiliar with them, web rings organize sites in rings and have you put a bit of code on your site to display links to previous and next sites in the ring. I have a site listed in http://w.webring.com/t/The-ColdFusion-Web-Ring They are easy to set up and may add a visitor or two per day. Would there be SEO or PR value?
i have used web rings and toplists nearly 6 years ago . i dont believe that both will help you to get better pr or serp. they are only help themself
Great topic I was wondering the same thing I have a few sites with webrings and was not sure if it helped the PR or Serps.
I think it did help my PR as those pages I put onf my webring all have PR3 or higher PRs... I actually had a question myself about the effect of Webring on traffic and started a thread but no-one seemed to be able to answer?? http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=237169
Are web rings a thing of the past? I used to see them everywhere, now I see them on less-professional-looking sites that look very 'twentieth century' (1990s). Are web rings used in non-English speaking circles at all?
Web rings were the thing back in the early days, before Google and when Yahoo! was a directory with over 1000 links. The nice thing about old is that old sites have a higher level of authority and tend to do well in PR and SERPs. I also thing Google and others may value them a bit because they pre-date things like directories that boast of their PR and pre-date a formal concept of SEO work.
