Google penalty, Yes or No?

A site was ranked between 8 to 11th place in a 6 mil results keyword.
Since last week, googlebots payed a visit, and then i saw that i'm not ranked for this word AT ALL.
I might add that a "site:" search with google shows the site and all of its pages.
Another thing is that i see now that google shows around half a mil less results than last week.

Can anyone put a light on this issue?
How can i check it, write to google?
i know that there is a penalty reaction procedure, but since the site is indexed thus its not banned...

    what is it?!

    p.s.
no black hat seo was done

Google may be updating and changing, some people have been losing their SERP's as well, just give it some time.

It happens all the time. Rankings go up, down, sideways and disappear altogether sometimes.

If you've done nothing evil, then there's nothing to worry about.
