If you have a directory or more - I have 16-18 directories - you may have been wondering too how come you get so many visitors from India? Ca. 50% of all my directory visitors come from India, and I get approximately 2-4.000 visitors pr. day in total to make my statistics on, so there should be a reasonable amount of validity in my statement that directory traffic is from India more than anything. What I am wondering is this: Where is the proud consumers (visitors) of America? US-visitors always used to make up the biggest group of visitors on an international dot com website. Do you have similar statistics from your directory business? Have you succeeded in catching a more "Americanized" audience? Is that important at all any more (in regards to monetizing on AdSense)? What are your thoughts on this?
Are these Direct Type-in or SE referrals? Many Directory Submission Outfits are based out of India. In fact most. And "the manual submission" is primarily done from India, even for outfits that are based in US, UK, Europe. Cost Arbitrage? So I am guessing that your visitors, are mostly comming to check if their submissions have been accepted, if you have free submission feature, and blahs! What do you think? Are planning to seriously monetise your Directory Traffic via adsense?
Having more of your traffic from India than any other country is normal, I asked this before and I was told that most manual directory submission services are offered by people from India, and because they do this a lot, well its only natural if you dont advertise they will be coming every day more and more.
I see the same at my directory. Most submitters are from India they do however submit sites from all over the world.

And doesn't it depend on the type of directory you are running? not sure though but my experience taught me if you target a specific Niche and the most "Scope" it has in some country you'll probably end up having visitors from there. For instance i run a niche directory on MYSpace and all my traffic,95% comes from the US just cos i see there is a huge deman of myspace and related stuff in the US! just my thoughts!
I think you will also find that a 'Free' directory will attract the Indian submitters a lot more than the 'Paid' directories. In order to obtain good US / UK based traffic you need to promote yourself on sites where that traffic can be obtained.

Internet in India is now growing up, just see on the countries of many people here on DP, very many of them are from India.
I have a feeling that this is true too. That the approximately 1 billion Indians are beginning to take up more cyberspace than the Americans do today. An interesting perspective though, that making (or changing to) a paid directory will change your audience. I would suspect though, that it would in effect take away most of the Indian traffic leaving you with the second largest (American) audience as the biggest fish in a smaller pond... /miko67
