Should college students be allowed to carry guns on campus?

In my school paper someone wrote:

"Purdue University could be the next Virginia Tech. What can we do to prevent this? Stricter gun control? Nope, that's been going on for years and simply doesn't work. How about we make a rule that no one can bring guns onto campus?

We already have that and so does Virginia Tech. It seems that when people are intent on committing murder they're not to concerned with getting expelled.

How about we hire more armed police officers? Getting warmer, but that places a heavy financial burden on the area. Also, the police are not responsible for our personal safety. What if students and faculty had the means to defend themselves? Current university policy says that if you are caught with a handgun, even if you are licensed to carry one, you will be expelled.

This type of policy might 'feel good,' but only hurts us.

Would one armed student or faculty member at Virginia Tech have stopped the slaughter? It sure as hell would have changed the odds. We need to work to get this policy changed and give students the choice to stop the body count before it reaches 32."



Does anyone else think this is a good idea? Personally, I think it's a bad idea and can't believe someone would actually write something like that.

No. If one person has a gun and kills 30+ people, just think what would happen if everyone had a gun.

 

Honestly.. it would be easier for people more people to get together and ruin many more lives.

See, that's what I thought! I mean, let's say Bob is just one of those guys who gets a bad temper and Jay says something and he just snaps. Instead of beating up Jay (which Jay would probably live from), Bob just shoots him.

 

Does anyone thinks they should carry?? its sure that no body want students to carry guns....

 

There are quite a few students at Purdue who think it's a good idea. I really don't know why!

Education & guns should be kept very separate, why do you need a pistol when doing an exam?

Haha Here they carry M16s .. Kalashnikovs and grenades.. The other day a guy got stabbed in the neck his relative brought his Kalashnikov and start shooting in the air. college closed and we went home..cooooooo.

why not give every 1st grade child an AK-47 like the taliban do. i mean you would feel much safer huh?

would you be safer if a tutor was armed? well no not really, what if he had a bad day? how many bullets can you fire in 5 seconds? how long would it take for 30 kids to get out a classroom?

kids make a run = 10 seconds
10 bullets in the gun 3 seconds to reload, i am sure 20 kids would get hit. before they get to the door.

i think you get the picture, ask mom to invest in an armored truck to take you to school, buy a bullet proof vest, or buy a cloak that turns you invisible.

untill you start giving the same sentence to the people that owned the guns that were used in killings, you'll not solve the problem. people that have guns will make sure they are locked away and secure if they face 30 years for providing the shooter with access to the weapon used in a killing.

 

Yeah but imagine the school results, class of 30 at the start of the term, class of 2 at the end, both of whom pass their exams. 100% pass rate cause the teachers shot all the others.
