Yahoo is not that bad granted they still need to make there search engine more competitive with googles but it's not as bad as must people make it out to be.
I think you have not read the thread properly! Read it properly then reply here! I started it since I found out Digitalpoint forums is not in the top 300 for the keyword "webmaster forums"
Oddly enough, you'll find tons of irrelevant posts in this thread. Many are laughable and sadly, most simply don't offer anything more than: "Well I like google because they rank my site and yahoo doesn't" Wow. Thanks for telling us that. We don't care. Read my earlier posts Freewebspace. I actually offered a rebuttal to your bold statement about Yahoo's search engine.
I read it ,Actually Google tweaked the results for that keyword "Search engine and other related terms" ,It has been also said earlier that they are doing it for some definite purpose ! Also your example is wrong as any search engine company would not agree that it is top on the results even though it has more market share! I am comparing it with a common term " Webmaster forums" Now also see the same result! for top 300 results I can't even find digitalpoint
Yahoo's probably going to be like altavista sooner or later...they have to diversify more then they actually do! YUI(Yahoo User Interface) is a really nice start!
A couple of years ago there was a Yahoo Sucks directory (a directory that looked like Yahoo). What happened to that site? Did Yahoo buy the domain or did Yahoo simply just send their lawyers on the guy behind that site? /Andreas
Yahoo is actually a great traffic generator for your site. Just use regular SEO and your site can be ranked highly very easily. I should make a Yahoo! Marketing article soon or just an article on the Yahoo! SE. Yahoo! is rather complicated, not as much as Google but they sure are capable of indexing pages quickly and ranking your site highly.
Yep, I can see that Google has in fact tweaked the results since my original post. But you have to admit that they are still irrelevant. "Best search engine" should return a list of search engines... like Yahoo's results. Also, that was the very first search term I checked. I guarantee there are more. What do you mean by this?? "Also your example is wrong as any search engine company would not agree that it is top on the results even though it has more market share!"
No one would be self promoting one' own search engine Here is the best example I am having a directory (www.jeffbrowninc.com) and here if I list my directory (jeffbrowninc.com) in http://www.jeffbrowninc.com/computers_and_internet/web_directories/ what others would think of? It's like self promoting one's own!
That's an interesting opinion. Keep in mind the nature of search engines. Regardless of the search term, they should return relevant results. If that means they should be #1 in their own search engine, then so be it. I agree on your point with directories. A directory should not list itself. A search engine should, however, if applicable.
My website: www.cn-crystal.com, is good in yahoo, there are 153 links in yahoo, but there is no links in google. I like yahoo, it is a good search engineer.
Yahoo is useless, I might aswell guess the url's of sites that have I'm looking for, I'll have about the same amount of success. "Yahoo Backlink Button" "Show Your Yahoo Backlinks Button" "Show Amount of Yahoo Backlinks" None of them find the actual pages (of yahoo's I might add) that have the yahoo backlink badge as its called (so what, no difference really). Go to google, and wham, first search, first page there it is.
In my personal opinion, google is the better one overall, but I realize after reading a bit through, that Yahoo also has strong points, and google weak points. About "Yahoo is the worst search engine". I don't agree, there are definitely worser ones. Yahoo can bring quite some nice traffic, also has some very good listings too. Of course, it also sucks at some points. Myself, I almost only use google, just because i'm used to it. Google is just very easy to use, @ yahoo the page is sometimes too crowded
I love when people offer their opinion but provide no examples or evidence of any kind. Personally, when I need to find something, I do a quick Yahoo search, instantly find what I need, and continue on my way. I have never once had trouble finding what I was looking for.
