Thinking of becoming vegan

Signed up for the 30-day PETA Veg Pledge at www.goveg.com.

I would now love some inputs from DP users already (real) vegan and if this has affected your health in any considerable way?

"Scientific data suggests that a Vegetarian diet helps prevent diseases such as obesity, coronary artery disease, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and some types of cancer"

Also one small moral question; I have a petsnake since many years that live off frozen mice (wouldn't this be considered a breach of "veganism")?

    Cheers

I went to that site and clicked on the sign up for the 30 day pledge link, and just got a message- "The system cannot find the file specified."

Can everyone else get to it ok?

Yes, eating your pet snake is definitely a violation of strict veganism.

Actually, I don't think it matters if you snake ate mice or not, eating him would still be against the rules. Why would you possibly think otherwise..?

I'm not a vegetarian personally, but I think that becoming a vegan is too extreme. Sure, there are complimentary amino acids, but what's wrong with eggs, milk etc. More power to you if you do decide to do it though :)

I was a vegan at one point in my life. Honestly I hated it. I hate tempeh and tofu, but I ate it anyway. It's just so expensive to be vegan, and the food you eat just doesn't taste as good.

If you're serious about giving something like this a try, why not go vegetarian? Allowing cheese into your diet opens up so many food combinations. I mean, spaghetti without parmesan cheese (or any other italian food for that matter.)

    Just my two cents.

Thanks for all the input and obviously I was refering to the fact that I would still have to keep frozen mice in the freezer as food for my snake (NOT EATING THE SNAKE) :p

Concerning "becoming a vegetarian" I did consider it since I do know for a fact that the local milkproducers etc do treat their animals very well,
I actually think Swedish senior-citizens being shuffled of to the different retirement homes faces a far more cruel ending than say milkcows...

We shouldnt miss the big difference. Do you want to become a vegan or a vegetarian?

But whatever you decide, congratulations for looking into this direction.

    Could access it without problems.

The way they're "made" is what's wrong with them. Ever been to a high production dairy farm? It's not much fun for anyone.

But I'm not vegan, so I can't talk  I'm kinda heading in that direction though.

@ Romlin - congrats on even considering going veg :)

Thanks mate, I will try this for 30 days :)

One of the reasons I am even considering this is that my current summerjob apart from regular studies, is at a local meatproducer and being faced with the "truth behind the curtain" everyday changes your priorities. Maybe I should start some kind of blog telling the story "Going from 21 Years of Meat to a Life of Veggies" :p

Haha, what a funny site! "Stop global warming by going vegetarian" lmao that just made my day! :D:D

FYI: People who don't eat meat become very weak and easily catch different diseases. :p

I think I'll never understand men who are vegetarians..

    EDIT//

Just saw you're from Sweden, that explains it all.....

Seems you havent followed the scientific arguments.

    Thats just simply wrong.

Most probably because they have more respect for others.

    And you are from Finland.

Whatever, its definitely not necessary to trash a serious thread with silly comments.

Have you got any idea how much energy (and water) goes into putting that steak on your table?

Stop being so naive and/or ignorant.

I must admit that global warming isn't a great reason to go veg - but it all adds up.

You are allowed to express your opinion, but you arent allowed to obviously trash a thread with silly comments

Get your facts straight before making such comments and you will see they are wrong.

For the rest, see Kerosene's reply please.

Stop arguing! That is my opinion, got it?????? Only like 50 years ago it was much warmer here in Europe, then colder and now it's getting warmer again because temperature changes all the time, IT'S NORMAL!

Did you know that all those 'big people' get paid to say that the global warming is the truth? Probably not....

And you aren't allowed to decide what I'm allowed to do. Enjoy your red! ;)
