The biggest problems i face are...

    1. Because of free submissions, there is no end to submissions people submit
    2. Certain custom made scripts are exploited and great amount of spam enter the database. Without CAPTCHA there could be nightmares.
    3. People will take express/featured submissions and dont want to pay. They just submit for paid ones and the moment they see the payment page, they close the window. This is little frustrating.

This will always happen. it would be better if a link was only created if payment has been made.

I would not say the problem with the directory, but one of the challenge is fraudulent payments and submissions like tonerboss:rolleyes:;)

    - Submissions are great
    - Spam is under control

QBC are the big problem, removing your paid links, shutting down sites, putting up directories on dropped and faked domains, destroying the market perception of the directories industry.

I think that directories lost something during the last years. Some time ago they were used for link building, to help serps, and to bring traffic themselves. Today few users apart from webmasters use directories to look for a site, so the traffic factor is almost lost. A site that is after lost a reason to be submitted. Of course there is always the SERP, which can be benefited, but direct traffic is lost. So If there were some people submitting for traffic back then, these people are not doing so today. That leaves us with less submitters.
    Just a thought...:)

The biggest problem I have is people not reading the submission rules. I spend an awful lot of time either editing or deleting submissions that don't fit the submission guidelines. The problem is magnified when you have more than one directory.

Fighting and jealousy within creating animosity instead of cooperation and prosperity for all.

Now that I read it... it just sounds mushy...

It's not good for sure, but I think we will have to wait a little before we "label" someone as being QBC. He may wanted a jump start for his directory. Maybe he will continue promoting and make a valuable directory out of a dropped domain. Or maybe he will just try to be QBC and leave it as is.
I think we will have to wait until the next PR update to see if he worked on his directory. If someone buys a dropped domain with a high PR, does this make him a QBC? What if he works very hard to keep his high PR? What if he invests lots of money into his project?
It will only show through time... Let's just not be hasty.

For sure but currently you cannot say it PR6 'directory' and 'long waited'.

    PR6 directory means a lot.
Lot of promotion and lot link building and lot of marketing.

It should only be presented once it justifies its PR as a 'directory' otherwise its QBC.

Not a quality directory for sure. But what I am saying is let's just give the guy a chance to prove himself. Is he QBC? Is he not? He will show us himself.
Let's just say "be careful with this one for the next months" and wait to see what happens...
