i've made a web discussion board where writers and editors can meet and discuss writing practices. its also a good place to get your writing evaluated.

its a free forum and was borne out of a desire to help people become better writers and editors.

Forums are kind of dead. Maybe you should hire some forum posters so people will feel free to post?

The theme is kind of ... too blue. I don't know. I like the more professional colors like DP's.

Well, you're just full of opinions tonight aren't you? :)

Starting any forum, especially a targeted one on writing, takes a lot of work.

And no one will get truly better unless you rope in some upper-tier talent. I don't think hiring posters is going to help much.

But then again, what do I know.

Starting a forum like this requires either a knowledgeable, talented writers team, an automated content agregator or hiring posters.

Otherwise, miix all of these ingredients together for a skyrocket start and good luck :)

Haha. What else have I gave an opinion on? Sorry if I'm being obtrusive or rude.

I'm not sure if forum posting works either, it's just that a lot of people do it so some success probably comes from it :)

If you want a model to look at go here:

    http://www.allfreelancing.com

I'm a mod there (it's Jenn's forum). You'll see that the activity is more than a little lacking. It has some good info and people on it and you'll see that it takes a lot of work.

I guess my question would be, how will your forum be different or better that others that are out there and full of "talented" writers/editors?

That's the big question you need to answer before you build.

Hi great categories, I'll be sure to join you there. Hiring forum posters, qualified in the areas of writing, could also be a good idea. Wish you well.

Actually, I think getting a bunch of posts in there is essential. Paid posting brings a little crap, but you can afford to be very strict about guidelines and quality. A hundred posts would make a tremendous difference for about ten or fifteen bucks.
Then you could start advertising at larger forums like Urbis and Absolute Write, to get some more posting population in. I would look at those two sites specifically and develop a niche that is lacking there.
Running writing contests will bring in traffic-make a certain post count in the forum a condition for entry. That will populate the forum and get it active.
A busload of writers will show up if you can offer access to editors on your forum. This will be tough to do.
As a regular user of this type of forum, I think the two priorities ought to be distinguishing it from the other popular sites, and filling up the threads.

From my point of view there is a major trouble with your project manchesterguy.

phpBB is hackable and looks amateurish without setting an appropriate skin.

Watch out with settings because this software is the preferred target for pharmaceutical and porn spamming.

I actually got 2 editors on board who will be glad to help out. I'm still looking for more though...and i need you guys too.

The real vision for this forum was to actually help writers get access to editors' help on the web, for free. "Get your stuff edited" is what its all about.

The board has some really nice forums on there. I would really like to see it populated, cause there are a lot of hot topics to be discussed.

I was visiting your forum again seeking the new skin, but this time I paid a little more of attention to available categories and sub-forums.

Well balanced choice to discuss on different aspects of writing.
