Content is the KING -- If we have highly informative and useful contents, we will not have to depend on Google as much as most of us do now. All of us know that. But I have noticed - many directory owners have different strategies to improve the content element on their directories. Some use Blogs ( www.avivadirectory.com & www.romow.com ) and put excellenet contents. Some use RSS News Feeds ( www.directorydump.com ) for that purpose. And some offer unqiue description for listed sites like http://ask-dir.com I would like to know your strategies for the future development of your directory's contents. Thanks for sharing it.
The market will not accept anything less than original content in the long term, so diversification and innovation is the order of the day and to be honest few do it better than Temi http://www.google.com/search?client...=s&hl=en&q=site:haabaa.com&btnG=Google+Search Results 1 - 10 of about 267,000 from haabaa.com Thats where content puts you, nothing much else to say, its all there for everyone to see
Yes totally agreed content is very much important. Options are many you can add content to each category just got related unique content for each category and put it there. Example see Arts Blogs Computers Education Like that I have put unique 500 words content on each top category. Content for sub categories will soon be added. Also add some informative sections and update them Like : Bollywood Cricket Gadgets Reviews Health Information I have many more plans for adding content and more content, as i know content is long term game.
how about merging phpld with wordpress, i mean on the same page! am looking foreword to the articles, phpld has an article stuff! i have finally got some content writers arround, let's see if it works!
I am adding articles to categories for a long time, i think i was the first http://web.archive.org/web/20070102063437/ask-dir.com/Arts/ http://web.archive.org/web/20070102063640/ask-dir.com/Business/ I like the idea of putting news articles the problem is really keeping then updated, the RSS feeds have the problem of being duplicated content.
I too used a CMS for adding more content. I also made static html pages for related information. Whatever you do, it works pretty good.
Among other things, I give a free blog post with submissions (except for the cheapest one) which is also adding a lot of content to the site.
RSS wrked for me.... im using various sources though.... CNN/ BBC/ FoxNews on the main pahe, and Gooogle/ Yahoo/ and MSN on the category pages, to get news relating to the category! wrks gr8, gets me related adsense most of the times, M.
Adding content to dirspace since the beginning I started the directory, over two years now... Almost 1000 categories with descriptions. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.dirspace.com and http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.dirspace.com/dir/331/-detail-31.html Try to aim for original content, that will convert into sales in long term.
Very interestings ideas so far indeed. I hope this thread will be a highly resourceful indeed. Guys --come on more As for me -- I am depending more on blogs.
My new Health Resource Portal is the first in a new network of niche portals I am launching. I use phpld v3.2 and also a WP blog to show unique content on the home page and throughout the categories. See this Other Health category for an idea. I tried niche directories before but they are very hard to bring traffic and listings to, now with the incorporation of a blog and articles (soon a forum) I will be able to build traffic many different ways. It is more expensive and time consuming to create and run one of these but I think the future for straight up listing only type directories is limited. With so many players, submitters are looking for more value for their listing dollars.
in top level categories: unique descriptions with links to sub categories example: http://www.enquira.com/news-politics/ in resources section: 16 blogs of unique content, various topics http://enquira.com/resources/ another blog: enQuira money http://money.enquira.com/ in second level categories: 1. related search: this finds content within enQuira (categories, blogs, enquira money,..) related to the category, no external feed, unique enquira content. http://www.enquira.com/electronics/cell-phones/ 2. related quote: a quote related to the category more coming.
I have a blog, within my directory which we update with fresh content regularly. We use the homepage newsfeed mod to show the newest posts on our homepage. Also lately, we have also added a forum, which has just started receiving some posts. All content within the blog is unique, handwritten by me or my partner. I think it has helped us a lot until now.
