So, that was another of your attention seeking lies...? You didn't really put me on ignore, because you were afraid you might (God forbid) be left out on something, but thought it would be clever to pretend you did...? You have yet to point out any flaw whatsoever in what I posted... saying so won't make it real, no matter how many times you repeat yourself. -Michael
Meta description should be used like a adcopy , when you don't rank in the top 3, the meta description will help increase the CTR. Moreover, I will not believe that it is NOT used for ranking. BTW Google also supports META NOODP tag. Read here. For whether Google uses Meta Tags for SERP or not, I have found that it helps, even though It is believed that Google don't use the Meta Tags for ranking. BUT YAHOO AND MSN STILL DOES. And there are many searchers who still Yahoo and MSN. So I always use the Meta Tags in my sites. Yahoo sends me 20% referrals.
I'm going to go over the thread and see mvandemar's logic. I'm open minded to new ideas, heh. By the way Blogspotter, meta description is good to use even if you rank in the top 3. I rank in top 3 on Google for my keyphrase but my snippet was horrible, so I used meta description and that seems to have made my click-throughs rise. So you should use it no matter where you are!
I didn't say one shouldn't use, but it sure helps better if you are below the top three I use it all the time
Yes, I definitely agree with Kaabi and Blogspotter's reply.. meta description really helps on S.Es to recognize your site easily.
If i missed the gist of what you said, then the second test i mentioned covers it well. Regardless of the results of any proper test, I will continue to use a Meta Description AND include my main keywords in it. If only for the fact that it can improve my click through rate. So, in my mind the test is not even worth undertaking.
Yeah even if it doesn't help your positioning you should use it. Also, as stated earlier in the thread, when I search exact text from my meta description, my site doesn't show up, so that means that it probably doesn't have an effect on searches.
Google is see the meta description some time, but most of the time it takes the description that come on the Search Engine Result page is from the body content of the page of from the Dmoz.org directory so we needs to out our listing in the dmoz also. see by this keyword website promotions ireland my website http://www.niceone.ie/websitedesignireland/seo-consultancy.html is come but its description is not that, that i give in the description tag, becasue its description is "NiceOne: A Professional Search Engine Placement SEO Company, Internet Marketing Services, SEO Website Promotion, Search Engine Placement, Increase Website Traffice SEO Services and SEO Marketing Company Ireland" is this while this is show this "Website Promotion Ireland, SEO Company Ireland, Search Engine Placement, ... Search Engine Placement Ireland Site Keywords : Website promotion Ireland," description so how can I sure that meta description is all time consider by the google, while with this "Internet Marketing Ireland" keyword my this page is come http://www.niceone.ie/websitedesignireland/seo-consultancy.html and the description tag is "NiceOne: A Professional Search Engine Placement SEO Company, Internet Marketing Services, SEO Website Promotion, Search Engine Placement, Increase Website Traffice SEO Services and SEO Marketing Company Ireland." and it show in the search engine result page "NiceOne: A Professional Search Engine Placement SEO Company, Internet Marketing Services, SEO Website Promotion, Search Engine Placement, Increase Website " and this is exactly same as i give in the description tag so I can not say surely that google does not pick up the description tag.. Its really very confusing so our body and description both are meaning full and keyword rich. Keep in touch Ambrish Shrivastava
That's some serious rambling you have going on there. It does though. That's what the test was about. -Michael
No it wasn't, and as I said before, you continuing to repeat yourself won't make it so. I don't care what the voices in your head tell you. -Michael
No, it was pretty random. So, just checked and the results haven't shifted. Looks like the test is holding true. -Michael
This has been thoroughly tested and I can show you the exact data on this from over 300,000 searches. The answer is.... Don't worry about it. There are 4 different "head factors" that we modern SEO's might call "a mashup". Is the keyword in the head? Is it in the "x" tag? Does the "x" tag even exist" How many words in the keyword?" The rules are all there and the results conflict and cross over each other. Just use the title tag and the Meta Description and use the keyword there too. Worry about lack of content. That's really the problem.
Yeah even if meta keywords and meta description do help with ranking it can't be that much, could only be a tiny bit. But I've actually dropped since I put in meta description.
What an entertaining read, I have always used relatively descriptive Meta tags in the hope they still carry sufficient weight to influence rankings, however I believe from Axemedia & Minstrel's posts, that your evidence isn't conclusive. I too would love to see some fully conclusive evidence.
