I logged into my CPanel control panel and under access host, it should be localhost but i saw another ip 192.168.1.% added, making it 2 access hosts. i noticed this 2 months ago and i deleted it right away, asked my hosting company what it is, they told me not to worry, (that i shud go to bed). i logged in today and the same thing is there again, i haven't deleted it, i want to be sure what website is accessing it before raising another alarm the ip address added is 192.168.1.%, pls, how can i find out what domain it is or tell me if i am getting things wrong I am 120% sure that no one has a password to my cpanel, i use awkward password like "j4er4eMw2" and i stored it in my brain only, you cant find a copy in my mailbox.
Could it be their backup agent? The ip is an internal ip so the connection isn't from an external source, at least not directly. I'd call them again just to be sure.
The hosting company will have full access to anything that you put on their computers and they wouldnt need to do anything that leaves any footprint visible to you to do so. Even with our resellers package we can access everything in our clients account using our own log ins. At the same time with over 200 sites in our account we dont have the time or the inclination to go poking round and only ever use the access to bug fix/ upgrade etc The IP is internal as already pointed out and there could be a variety of reasons as to why it is there. If your hosts say not to worry about it then dont, if they tell you to go to bed then find a more professional hosting company.
Well, i dont doubt it that they can access files on my computer, but i think they shud have access to databases only when access host is added, maybe i was wrong but i still dont know what the IP doing there, i contacted them and they said that ip is not from them. i will remove it and hope it doesnt come back, if it does, then i will av to look else where. Thanks to all. you are great guys
Well, that settles it then. To the OP, no need to look any further, "The law protects you.". Thanks FFMG
Not sure of the relevance of your comment? The CPanel and database is presumably on your webhost not your personal computer?
Yes in deed! This is nothing more than what a Server Admin calls, Root! When your "Root" on a nix box! It's the whole ball of wax and any directory or folder can be looked at. ' A million websites or directories could be deleted in about one second, with nothing more than two letters followed by the chosen path and return key.
i host a few sites, i'm small time. but i have absolute access to everything. if you pay for your hosting, i.e. godaddy, site5 or whomever, they have absolute, total access to your stuff. why would they want to steal it?
Your host has access to everything you have access to. I know because i used to help run a webhost, and i used to check vBulletin installations for nulled scripts. Rob
i believe that this means when you install a script that requires mysql database for mysql host you can enter localhost or 192.168.1.% it works both ways
Change your web host if they tell you to go to bed they are not professional change your sites and delete all your files now
