DOS attack

    my server help desk tells me that my server is under attack from my ip
    i was just using cpanel to edit some pages
    is it possible for something like this to happen without my knowledge and is there anyhing i can do

    Unless you are reloading pages way too quickly (on the order of 1000 times a second) or unless someone is cloaking their IP to make it look like yours, something is seriously screwed up. Are you sure it is actually yours?

    Just a thought, maybe they have a bad server config and it keeps trying to send too much data?

    Are you on a home connection, or at a university/business where other people are on the same network?

    i am at home and they say it was done from same ip as in the link
    could there be a viruse or something like that in my home pc that is causing this

    Hmm, yeah, some sort of malicious software could be the culprit... do you have any anti-spyware/virus software installed? If not, it isn't hard to find free ones online.

    In that case you can block IP ranges from where attack is initiated , and if possible install apf and configure antidos , so that IP which initiat attack will get block automatically.
