Building an Income through building lists of subscribers. Questions?

You hear people tell you that "The Money Is In the List" or that "You Should Build A List".

It's all great and good for them, because they have done it. Although it isn't really clear as to how you would get started or what you need in order to do it right.

So I am here to answer your questions regarding list building and what it takes.
If you have any questions or would like a review of what your currently trying, then go ahead and ask and I will answer.

The easiest way to start a list is by setting yourself up with a free service like NotifyList.com, which provides an easy way for people to subscribe/unsubscribe.

Larger sites like Aweber of course cost more but offer more in the way of functionality.

So far I haven't tried to build a list yet, as I really am not selling anything at the moment. I will be selling something this summer, but I don't have a dedicated site for it so I don't think that listbuilding on my own would be that effective. I think that in my particular case, marketing through other people's lists would be the best option.

Here's the thing though, you don't have to have your own product to build a list.

There are thousands of free reports that you can offer in exchange for an email. See the link in my sig? I offer a product with full resale rights that you can have, to give or sell away, in the first email you get after you confirm. So there is something right there that you can use.

Then based on what that item is about, you will know what your audience is interested in. Then its all simply a matter of visiting clickbank and finding like content products to pitch to your list.

    Well

All this is now quite old and troublesome... you can try for some twist and you can make it to the top.

What is the best way for a newbie to set up an opt in list? Is there a free service to do this? I have considered doing this for one of my sites and sending articles with links to affiliate products.

Yes there is a free service, it is called www.freeautobot.com I personally used this service to develop my email series as a testing and learning experience.

This is the only free service that allows you to create an opt in form that you can add to any website. It also allows you to set up an email series for your subscribers to receive.

I have made a great deal of money off of my list that i had built over the period of a few years. It was for a past business and i integrated it and weeded out a few emails and I could actually make a living (not a great one) off of sending out one email a week.

Ok so what you do is click on "add lead" once you do that you will see a question mark in the top right corner. Click that and it will have a pop up that includes the opt in form html.

Lists just seem like such a hassle, plus people just delete most of their emails anyway cause they think it's trash. Almost seems like spamming in the long run cause its a numbers game.

If you have some hosting space somewhere, you could always use PHPList. It is free and very full featured. We use it for newsletters at work and I really like it.

I want to start building up a list myself for a travel business I have. I don't know if it would be worth it to try and buy some traffic or what? I don't have any websites right now that really get any traffic. So purchasing traffic seems to be the way to go. Unless someone has better ideas.

Best thing to do is grab some clickbank items that relate to the content of your blog and start adding those items that have relevancy to each email you send out in the form of a P.S. at the end of each mailing.

Big myth number 1, it is to your best interest to build a list of subscribers, as for the ones that opt out, that is a great thing. It means you are losing and not wasting time with the ones that don't want to hear what you have to say.

Pay attention to the ones that receive and react to your mailings.

    Thx John :)
I never use clickbank before. What worrying me is that I definitely sure that 90% of my subscriber is local. To be precise, a Malaysian citizen. Is there such product that is targeted for only certain country? I am thinking about adding books that related with contest but not sure how to go about it.

    Any further advice?

    Cheers!

Actually the best way to learn how to write the emails is open and read emails that you get from people who's list you are subscribed to. You can even receive and read mine, just for the purpose of learning:

Click bank is free to use and instead of thinking of your list in terms of a local group, start thinking in terms of what they are interested in. Why did they sign up? What would interest them? Consider what niche your list is targeted to.

If for some reason you can't then you need to consider offering something that will help you bring in people that are interested in one thing.

Take for instance my page asks people who are interested in list building to join. Everyone who joins, I know is interested in list building and learning how to do it. So I offer advice, and recommendations to different products that can help.
