I currently have several pages indexed as supplemental result that has a positive PR of 3 or 4, my question is will the PR go 0 the next round of PR update with them if I do nothing about it such as getting more backlinks?
Michael, If I have pages that show as supplemental when I use a site: query in google, but shows as a normal page when I search for part of the text for the page, will that count as supplemental (hence no PR), do you think? I believe I have a lot of pages in this situation. Cheers
Yes, but I have found that if you can get even on external link pointing directly to a deeplink, then it tends to come out of the supplemental index. Use some link building methods that will help you get 100s of supplementaries into the main index. Honestly, I did not think this was possible. My understanding about "supplemental" is that it is a separate index. So, the page should be in that index regardless of what you are looking for. I would love to see an example of what you are seeing. Thanks
Have been in touch with the OP and have been doing some research. It seems that the oddities mentioned in this thread might have more to do with results being dished out by different datacentres at different points of time.
Hmmm, could be I guess, I'll have to look into it more I'm not the OP by the way if that comment was for me, which I think it was - sorry to the OP if I / we hijacked the thread. Cheers
Heh he yes, I got your PM shortly after I posted in this thread, so I thought that you were the OP. But, we are not hijacking the thread, as we are totally on topic. My last word on this is to get direct deeplinks and make the content and the links on those inner pages valuable. In fact, I would go to the extent of saying that evaluating the proportion of supplemental pages in a site should be an important criteria in deciding which sites to buy links on.
It is a separate index... completely separate, which means that inclusion in one does not automatically include exclusion in the other. It has to do with datacenter synchronizing and how G pulls the queries. So yes, it is possible to be in both, but I would take that as a sign that you are borderline to being dropped from the regular index and might want to get just a couple more links to some inner pages to make sure. As far as PageRank goes, I'm pretty sure it's a case of them only calculating it for the non-supp index, so if you are in both then in theory you should still get it... but I can't know for sure. Also, remember, PageRank is taken from a snapshot... it also has to do with which index you were in on the day they decide to take that snapshot. -Michael
Guys, consider the following conumdrum, If supplemental pages cannot get PR increases, how can they ever move out of the supplemental index? Page rank is solely a function of incoming links, to a web page, that is links from out side the domain, and from within the domain, so pages within the same domain pass page rank to each other, Furthermore visible PR or the TBPR is not live, just a quaterly snapshot, so those inner pages showing PR 3 but within supplemental index have probably already lost PR You need deep links
They can get PageRank, it's just if they are supplemental at the time of the snapshot for the export, then they are left out of it. Correct, it is safe to assume that any links you get from pages that are solely in the supplemental index will not help you gain PR, or rankings in Google for that matter. -Michael
