Reciprocal link deleted?

Ok I noticed that when scroll through link directories and click on the links to the sites in these directories that I can never find the link that website is supposed to have back to the directory.

Are these guys deleting them after they get what they want from the directory?
If I create a directory that requires a reciprocal link, whats to stop them from doing that to me??

a lot of them do that, having a recp. option is useless, because people usually create a page and fill it up with links 90% of the time the page isnt linked to at all.

yep. that and they put it on a page that will NEVER get spidered., and even then, they still delete links after a short while.

Lots of scripts control the reciprocal links, but people give them to another page.you can forge them to put links in index, but nobody does that.

reciprocal links are dying out. People will rarely give a genuine link back to the dir.

Don't bother with reciprocal links, more trouble than they're worth 95% of the time.

I thought that it is checked to see whether someone links on a page that is indexed in your site.

I was under the impression that phpLD had a feature where you can re-check all of the receiprical links, an dif they're not found it will remove the link from your directory. Is this not true?

(If it sounds like I have no experience with phpLD, it's because I don't, yet. i'm trying to soak in as much as I can before I make my first go with a directory.)

You need to continuously monitor them.
If you cannot then don't care about them ;)

    Go ahead.

    Dont do recips... problem solved.
Just wait until your paid links disappear as well... its only a matter of time until it happens. I used to hollar, whine, and complain... Now I just keep a "do not ever deal with again" list but I only have 11 on the list so far...

This is why I prefer to keep my directory free untill I'll get a higher PageRank :)

as im not interested in games and gimmicks in an effort to sneak in then a week later delete my link..

Upper you said your directory is free until PR goes up. When it does would the free listings still remain?

Totally agree, and only one reciprocal submission got accepted in my directory, as most of them listed the directory link on non-indexed page.

Planning to remove reciprocal selection on my directories. ;)
