Held #5 position and now can't find in top 100

My site which ranked #5 for a keyword that yields almost 14,600,000 results suddenly dropped to page 7. It climbed up a bit to page 6 and now it's not even in top 100 positions.

I had not added any fresh content for 2 weeks
I have never bought a link.
I did get a couple of sitewide links but they were not paid.

Any idea guys? I really REALLY needs ome help... it's getting really frustrating now!

But just before every BL update, or PR update, this happened. I am kinda used to it now. It will get back to normal..

Same happening here. I also got a sitewide link on a site that has around 8k pages. I think G is trying to figure out if it is a paid link or a bomb attempt. I'm sure it will settle down again in a couple of days.

While it has also been happening to one of my websites, it hasn't been nearly as volatile as it has been with your sites. Recently my Devil May Cry site would shift between the first, second and third positions within 5 minutes of searching for the same keyword! And then return to its original place again.

I guess Google must just like to keep us on our toes. ;)

Same problem here, many sites dropped from their top 5 rankings. Reason? The sites are on the same server, and tend to be linked to each other, so...

I don't understand why my sites should be heavily penalized for being organized as a network, because they are one.

One was even #1 for a very popular term, and now is not even in top 100.

    Overall, Google traffic fell by 2/3 - 3/4. It's been a week.

Most of my good ranking sites are on same server & ip. I dont that would be the issue actualy. Though, I have other sites on other hostings. We all know its best to have them all different host & ip etc. But

I easly get PR1 & PR2 for a new domain that I newly install and add a few links from the other domains that I have on the same server. This is why I think that would not be the issue.

Thanks a lot everyone! So what you are saying is Sitewide can be risky right? I do have a site linking to my site sitewide and it IS on the same server but I thought it was not against G webmaster guidelines!? They clearly say they don't care abt shared hosting?

I am back on Page 1 now. Lets see how long it stays?

You know my case is even crazier, we are on on the second page for a keyword that overture shows at over 250,000 searches a month, however the actual search when you search for www.**********.com, the ********* doesn't come up in top 10 pages at all!!

New sites will usually show widely varying fluctuations, because one moment google has it listed - the next it's hit some filter somewhere. The only thing to do is keep building quality content and then quality links to that content - and be patient (while you keep building).

One thing that people should be careful about is if they see sudden drops in their positions in Google, and they havent made any major changes to their sites, then DO NOT START to make any sudden changes.

These fluctuations are totally normal, especially when Google is preparing their update. I have been experincing these fluctuations for years now.

But don't start to panic, and make any reckless or pointless changes to your sites - this could do more damage in the long run.

I am sure after a few days, things should return back to normal.

Thank you for the advice Alex, do you think it is safe to add content, just regular pace content nothing major. Also have you ever seen something like www.xxx.com the xxx doesn't come up but a search term that gets 250,000 searches a month still on 2nd page? Also other search terms bouncing around...and still good rank on foreign sites such as google.se, for past 2-3 days foreign datacenters still showing same good rankings as we held before, I've noticed.
