Clickbank Link Cloaking

I've just been reading an email from an internet marketer that says that Clickbank no longer allow affiliates to cloak their links.

    Is this correct?
Is there a difference between cloaking and redirecting?

If this page is any indication, it looks like Clickbank still allows cloaking.

    cloaking clickbank hoplinks is allowed
If you are promoting something to internet marketers / affiliates it is better to cloak your links.

That's weird. The marketer I'm referring to has a big reputation for affiliate marketing with Clickbank and has a number of ebooks relating to it, so I thought he'd be correct. It seems as though cloaking is still allowed though. Here's the message I received from this internet marketer just yesterday.

    "Clickbank now forbid "Cloaked Links"

Several people "cloak" their link to stop their Clickbank commissions being stolen - in fact I used to do it.

That was until Clickbank notified me it is now against their terms and conditions.

So if you are doing this make sure you update your links immediately."

He might be talking about (i)frames and such which are actually forbidden by ClickBank rules (though I've seen a thread nearby in which someone stated this rule isn't being enforced lately).

It's very unlikely ClickBank would forbid using straight 301 redirects.

well since clickbank makes money from sales
and since cloaking hoplinks helps sales.

I doubt clickbank would try to stop that.

The absolute best way to "cloak" your links is to modify one of your websites' hta access info so that you can make http://www.yoursite/product1/ go to your clickbank link.

This way, you still get the link equity for your domain. You could easily make a subdomain too (which is what I do for ease of use) and then autofroward the subdomain to your clickbank link.

Interestingly, one of my autoforwarded subdomains actually RANKS for a term based on the anchor text linking into it.

So, www.book1.fulltimerblog.com actually shoes up in google for the term "RV Checklists" despite the fact that the page is simply autoforwarded. And, best of all, your link looks good in the browser without looking like an affiliate link.

What would be their reason to ban cloaked hoplinks?

This would probably be because you have some backlinks pointing to that subdomain making it relevant to Google.
