Iphone is the registered trademark of Apple..............
If it takes the legal way.....no one can stop them or can they?

Cisco owns the trademark, not apple.

Yes, Their (Apple's Lawyers), they certainly would not want to indulge in a certain lost case. for two very obvious reasons

    1) Apple doesnt own the Trademark for iPhone, Cisco does.
    2) iPhone.com was registered way back in 1995, way before than apple even thought of making something called iPhone.

So they didnt have a single chance out of 10 millions to win the case.
Thats why they negotiated with the owner of that domain

Not really, That depends on how does he get the revenue, he would have lost it certainly, had he tried spoofing the site as if it was associated with apple or it;s product iPhone.

    Otherwise No!!

Revenue from most source (ads and stuff) is good enough for Apples file a suit for "bad faith" of use.

If it is like the Nissan.com (a computer company that is established for long time), that's another story

also it depend how far each side want to go, i won't go through all those stress to fight for it. Settlement is the best:D

I suspect Apple (or Cisco, depending on who you think will ultimately get the rights to the name) might have a legal case if it was bought by someone now, after the Apple iPhone is out.

The guy who registered it originally predated either Apple or Cisco's claim so I doubt they could sue him over it.

Of course, I'm not a lawyer and don't play one on TV so this is all pure speculation :D

Now that I thought about it, I'm surprised Apple didn't make a much smaller offer before anyone knew about the iPhone...
