surely the design hasn't changed within the last month. the data inside of the database sure... but that doesn't matter. if you have changed the design then you might have to modify it to get back but other than that just restore last month's backup minus the database.
Why is so much fuzz ? If you want to get it done clean then mail the vB support - contact@vbulletin.com with your FTP/database login details. its vB exploit so the first person you should contact is vB. I guarantee you the problem will be solved without loosing a penny.
thanks mate vbulleting really rocks. i email them in the morning and now they helped me how to recover admin password but unfortunatly hacker deleted my Admin User name. waiting for their reply now. i have also asked hostgator to restore from old backup they will take some time.
Can you please tell us what insure code they meant? Your answer can help many including me to prevent their site.
i am sure they mean to say some addons /plugins even when i ask vbulletin staff they said if you want 100% security then don't use plugins for vbulletin. some of them have security problems. i am waitin for reply from my host i need new backup. or else i will loose 1500 to 2000 posts. and 100 members
My forum got hacked 2 times and everytime all they did was change the forum setting too offline and on the message part they've added their htm code. It's probably the same with your forum, however if you can't log in, that might be a problem. hmmm It's also the first time I've head about a host charging to restore backups. Everytime my forum got hacked they've fixed it for me, free of charge. They've also given me tips on why my forum was hacked and what I must do to prevent it from happening again. On one of my php files the settings was set to debug, that is how the hacker could get my password and simply log in and change my forum too offline and display their crap. However I'm not using vbulletin, but it could be that they got your password the same way they found mine. If you ever get your forum back online again. you might want to search for security patches for your forum script, they help. My forum didn't got hacked ever since I've added a second password on the admin panel and since I've removed that debug setting.
Where do you host your website? how is the service? uptime? support? Today i am not happy with my host. they have no good support. they pass time on moving my tickets to one section to another lol 24 hours online but that is basic support. and when i asked to restore and asked for time when it will be done they gave me the url to fill up the forum with 15$ fees. when i asked first time when u took last backup they said on 1st july and my site got hacked on 3rd july. and when i asked for restore i got this reply.
not ok yet my friend. i have uploded more then 1 month old back up. waiting for my host to reply if they are not able to restore new one then i'll use current one. just now i have checked with google cache. i will loose more then 2400 posts and 135 members
You can use the new database to email all members and tell them to register again if their accounts are missing. Make it a "Sorry for Inconvenience" type of mail. Those genuinely interested in the forum will register again.
mate my new databased is hacked and i have no access to it. but i will wait for maximum 10 hours if my current host will not help me then i will email current members to support me and start posting again. and to recover 135 new members i need one month. so google will help me
What happens when a fresh install is done on an existing database? Wouldn't a fresh admin get created?
did someone see the funny thing in hes message? fox-team3[at]hotmail[dot]COM hes not the only fox team around.. fox-team"3" lmao
I host my websites with elitehost.co.za I'm hardly have downtime on my sites, they always sents out emails if they are going to do some upgrades on the servers but I never really had downtimes during these times... And the support are great, and I don't get charged for any support. I don't know how often they make backups though.
