Good Aussie host with fantastic website builder? Anyone??

Well I've managed to register the .com.au domain I was after, but now I'm in need of a good Host with a superb Website Builder (something simple as I'm no Web Designer!!). At the moment I'm using Homesteads Site Builder which is very easy to use - so I'd like something similar.

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated!

I can hook you up with a good host.

About the site builder - not sure who offers that. Probably worth paying the extra $20-$40 and getting a site design done anyway, looks alot more professional!

Yep I agree it would look more professional - but wouldnt I lose control over the site that way? At the moment I'm updating it daily - would I be able to do that if someone else designed it for me?

    Thanks

Rachel (I took at a stab at your name :p),

You wouldn't lose control over your site. The design is the look of the site; you can update it daily as per usual. If you are unfamiliar with how to update .html files, I would recommend getting it coded for wordpress (about $30). It is very simple to make new posts, add images, pages etc and it doesn't have to look like a blog in order to be usable with wordpress!

    Thanks Matt

I basically want to re-do this site

http://www.shopsinoz.com to put it onto an Aussie Server with the .com.au domain name. At the moment its not looking very professional but I still want it to be user friendly in the way that it is now - not surrounded by google ads all over the place like other directories seem to be.

Any suggestions on how I could re-create that without my oh so faithful Homestead? :)

    Thanks again

    Hi Rach,

Apologies, I spelt it like my friends name :)

Any reason why an Aussie server in particular? We have pretty expensive hosting in comparison to overseas.

You have a good site, quality content. I agree, google ads to me instantly makes me lose some credibility for the site. You have some affiliate links in there anyway to make some money.

There are many designers out on DP who could keep the same look, but spice it up a bit and make it more attractive for quite a low price. Personally I can do it, and although I'm not expensive, I don't work for $20 :D

I would use plain old xhtml and css, however if you aren't confident using that I would use a CMS like wordpress.

    Hope that helps :)

Glad you like the site. I only set it up cos I was fed up to the back teeth with searching for online shops in Oz only to come up with crap all the time. And the directories I did find were literally full of Google Ads - sorry but thats a huge bug bear of mine!

I wanted to go with an Aussie server and .com.au domain just to get the best possible chance of being recognised as an Aussie Company and showing in the 'pages from Australia' search.

Nobody seemed able to come up with the answer as to whether it was the domain name or the server which determined this - so I thought I'd go for both just to make sure.

As long as someone shows me how to do something then I'm pretty easy to teach.

What sort of price are we looking at?

PM me if you like :)

    Cheers

I'm not really sure, some people say its the servers, others say its the servers IP's geographical location... its crazy, not sure if anybody really knows... just a lot of people who *think* they know!

It's not too hard to update using notepad or dreamweaver or whatever you prefer... you just need to know how to do it - not need to actually understand the rest!

I'll PM you the details and price, discount for other Aussies ;)

    Thanks,
    Matt
