How to grow a directory?

I noticed a lot of people mentioning how investing money in a directory is what helps it get built up. Well Im curious to know in what way people invest money for their Link directories? Where is the money primarily spent.

Please be specific!!

 

if you take time to read articles/threads here you will see and will find a lot of helpful hints. Answer for your questions its simple, place a directory seed in your USB port and water it daily.

 

Speaking for me only...create a couple of banners or pay someone to create them for you...and then seek out sites offering banner advertising.

Buy links from sites that are reputable and return traffic. In the past I have advertised with directorycritic and iwebtool. Both are well worth the money.

Buy sig links in forums (especially this one). Your not going to get a whole lot of seo value but visibility and name recognition will go a long way. Keep your eyes peeled for site wide link offers...especially in new directories or sites that "have promise".

Thanks Tmeyer that is definitely helpful. Banners seem to be a good idea for a directory. I have a feeling that a lot of money will have to go into it, but as long as someone would pay for a link here and there that money could be invested in banners.

 

Directory is like a pet.
Who cannot stay hungry or thirsty for 24 hours.

You need to feed them many times a day.
For directories you have to run 'continuous' promotion campaign.

We can also take the fruit seeds and sow them again which in return will make some other good trees

Regularly making links for it can grow your directory smoothly.

before promoting try to increase it's pr. I would not submit my site to a pr 0 or pr1 directory

 

You also have to prune it if you wish for it to grow several sub categories or even sub sub categories from the parent. It's perfect though if you love spending ridiculous amounts of time online and now have an excuse for it...

 

Growth comes with time. It takes about 2yrs for the directory to settle in.
