You have to get hosting. Just because you buy a domain does not mean it automatically comes with hosting.

I don't know what you are asking in your second question

    This plan https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/hosting/shared.asp?ci=9009

is a far better deal for what you are wanting to do. You will need to create your own pages and ftp them to the server. There are free ftp clients you can download. There may even be a free wysiwyg editor out there somewhere.

If I get the middle one for a year. Will it be able to handle forum hosting? and linking various items to my own webspace?

What do they mean by "10-page website"?

Colby is right - the hosting plans in the link are much better than the ones you are looking at.
In the hosting manager, you can select simple machines forum, enter the folder to install it in, create a username / password and then GoDaddy will automatically install it for you.

A ten page website means a you can use their site builder (which is junk IMHO) to build a site with 10 web pages.

    e.g.

    yoursite.com/page1.htm
    yoursite.com/page2.htm
    yoursite.com/page3.htm
    yoursite.com/page4.htm
    yoursite.com/page5.htm
    yoursite.com/page6.htm
    yoursite.com/page7.htm
    yoursite.com/page8.htm
    yoursite.com/page9.htm
    yoursite.com/page10.htm

For the hosting plans I posted the link to above, the middle plan will allow you to host more than one domain. I have about 8 small sites hosted on my "middle accout".

Any of the plans can can handle a forum. I am not sure what is available in the installer section but I know there is one.

a SSL cert is used for those that offer services/goods. Secures your site so others cannnot intercept the information being sent over the server. You won't really need one for a forum.

Try to buy a cpanel based hosting which will be cheaper and better.

If you want to run a forum or other script then don't go for the plans in your posted image. You need a plan that has PHP and mySQL. If you are new to this look for a host that has good support and hopefully an active and busy support forum where you can ask questions.

Before choosing a host you will need to know what you are trying to run on that hosting server.

If the forum is written in php you might want to go with Linux hosting plan. If it is running ASP.NET you will need to have windows hosting.

You can host your domain anywhere you like. as long as you can change the name server records to point to the hosting service. Godaddy does support that option.

I would suggest that you start with a starter hosting plan and then see what is your traffic and you can upgrade your plan anytime. if you are looking to host more than one domain at your hosting account you might need to choose a bigger plan.

I am currently running special on hosting plans starting from $3.99 please see my sig for details.

If you have any question please ask we are here to help.

Is Godaddy any good for hosting proxies? I'm running a few on a VPS right now and paying a lot more for only 300g a month bandwidth. Mine has cpanel but other than that I can't really see anything better about mine. Am I missing anything?
